Directions just lead to a private driveway. If there is something out there the public can’t get to it
Had a great time exploring this cemetery, much larger than I was expecting.
Just a little stop off the highway on your way to Julian, good place to stretch your legs and check out the view of the desert below.
We never found evidence of Stratton but did enjoy the many trails around Stonewall mine. Tons of pretty wild flowers and little critters… don’t forget the bug repellent I forgot the gnats can get kind of bad in Cuyamaca.
Sadly we never found the mud volcanoes… we followed the directions down a dirt road but we only found a very empty campground and a restricted hunting area. There was nothing at the spot it said “ arrived at destination “
Just got home from Salvation Mountain it’s such a neat place to visit. The current resident/ grounds keeper Ron? Was working on some repairs when we were there. He explained the process and how he finds the clay used to cover the hay bales, told us about the spiders, bats and local snakes all very interesting. He did have to lay down the law to a group of young ladies that weren’t being respectful to the site and it’s meaning… drinking and playing their music loudly while other visitors were trying to appreciate the beauty of the mountain and it’s message. Definitely worth checking out
We tried finding this using the navigation in this app but when it said “you have arrived” there was nothing there but more 111 highway. We tried finding it using another app which led us down a farm road where we ended up having to turn around because a hay truck was blocking the path. I thought it would be pretty well marked but we never saw it
We tried and tried but never found fossil canyon just desert brush and one weird metal sculpture. If you do head out this way I do recommend stopping for a burger at the Red Feather.
I don’t think this restaurant is there anymore, we couldn’t find it and there’s not a lot around so it would be hard to miss if it was
