We visited the Estate when the "Downton Abbey" wardrobe was on display. It was fascinating to see the parallels between my favorite series and this real life estate. The clothes were an interesting touch adding to the already fascinating surroundings. There were audio tours available, but we just read the free booklet along the way and learned plenty about the estate and family. The staff were readily available to answer questions along the way. There was an adorable restraint in what used to be the stable. Good food, but pricey. The gift shop was adorable and had a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs. My only complaint was that it wasn't very kid, friendly for my 6 year old - but I expected that. I think kids would be much more engaged with an actual tour guide. If you plan on taking your children, even older kids, pay the extra money for the guided tour. Expect to spend most of the day here. Also, you can't photograph inside the building, even with your cell phone. The close-by Biltmore Park offers great shopping and dinner after you leave!
