Great park for a weekend visit. We had a nice time hiking and trail running a few of the trails and enjoyed that you can hike the major trails from the campground. Campground 2 and bathrooms/ showers were very clean and up to date and site was mostly level. Sites back up to very open woods and we enjoyed listening to/watching the armadillos and owls at night. There was considerable highway noise though from our campsite and the $40+ tax and fees seems steep for a state park, but the campground was sold out.

This state park has so many campsites that are clearly never used. It makes you wonder what it looked like once upon a time. We stayed here for a short weekend getaway and realized we had missed the mark on this one. A few months later we tried Sardis lake again, this time at the oak grove coe campground .25 mile down the road. It made a world of difference. Oak grove has water front views and is more well maintained, closer to beach access, and closer to the boat launch. I see us trying Sardis again but we will probably use oak grove and not John W Kyle.
