Yummo!! Delicious soft serve. Get the gelato-shaved ice with soft serve. We did mango vanilla. Large is great to share. My son loved the banana pudding shake.

Great way to kick off our road trip.
My kids love nutcrackers & this was a fantastic stop. Thousands of nutcrackers of all sorts from many countries. A marvel to look at & who knew there were different types of pecans. We cracked & tasted 5 kinds. Highly recommend a visit if you are nearby & want a break from the interstate.
Only issue with listing is the address is incorrect. It’s about 2 miles further at 5440 Texas State 123.
This is now a Quality Morning Inn and has nice, remodeled, clean rooms. Very friendly front desk and fresh popped popcorn in the lobby. Pool.
Very comfortable sleep here last night. Great ice machine & just what we needed for breakfast - cereal, hot tea, little danish & Tillamook yogurts. Enjoyed great burgers at The Savage Grill right around the corner.
We would all come back and explore even more. Extraordinarily high temps & humidity, cut some of our hiking short. We were fortunate to get there early (but visitor center closed) and run into a couple who gave us some tips of where to go. We loved Wildcat Canyon & the Starved Rock loop. The visitor center museum taught us a lot about the native people of the area, some history about the French, the Fort that once stood here as an outpost as well as the flora & fauna. We were thrilled that we trekked down to the base of Wildcat Canyon & likes the challenge of hiking back up 189 steps! There is a junior ranger program & it’s terrific. Kids were thrilled to get a badge much like national parks & a goodie back for completing. The canyons were an amazing surprise to us Virginians. The trails were wonderful & mostly shaded. Definitely recommend walking up to the historic lodge - even if only to admire the timbers used in the great hall and definitely step out into the veranda for the view. The ice cream was awesome too! Needless to say, we will stop here again to break up our westward trip and can’t wait!
Great museum to really learn more about this man and small town America. The buildings were interesting & the Junior Ranger program was terrific. National Park Rangers were great & we lucked out and the artist in residence was giving a talk & demonstration.
This place is fantastic if you enjoy hunting for fossils. We took advantage of the map & phone tour which was great & helped understand what to look for and what we were seeing. The seabed fossils are EVERYWHERE.
This was a quick stop with informative signs about the family who established this ranch. Home & outbuildings have been restored. We could get inside, but peeked in the windows. Pretty detail surprises like stained glass and two cute donkeys as well as other animals that checked us out. It was a great break from the Interstate & we walked around reading signs, enjoying the breeze, catching grasshoppers & eating out sandwiches. Perfect leg stretch in pretty surroundings. Not sure when home is open for tours. We all really enjoyed this 20 minute stop.
Lovely owners. Clean. Excellent location for Fort Donelson National Battlefield. Rooms are tidy, have wifi, microwave & fridge. Conveniently Piggly Wiggly is across the street. Pool is outdoor and was refreshing after a long hot day. Will make a point to stay here again.
