Stayed at the Blackhawk Loop campground. $15/night with hot showers and large facilities. Didn't think that there would be any spots, since we arrived after sunset but were happy to find a couple of spots to choose from that were really nicely maintained.

Creosote and hot air balloons in the morning, love it!

This hike has some great views and really shows off the canyon. You're traveling down a ridge, so you have expansive views that change, absolutely amazing!

Be prepared to have a leg workout, the condition of the trail is a bit rough on the knees, even with trekking poles.

Be smart, bring water, and know your limits.

Beautiful hike -1.4 miles round trip, heavy elevation gain and scrambling is required.

If you're not comfortable with heights think twice and please leave your small children at home. Be considerate of other hikers and let them pass if you are moving slowly.

Stayed here two nights in a row. There seem to be regular cancellations around spring break, but make sure that the ranger actually checks the computer to see if there are any open spots.

We stopped by in the morning around 9am to see if we could get another night and were told to make reservations 6 months in advance, but when we visited later at 11 to check out (a different ranger helped us) we were asked if we wanted to stay another night. We stayed and were shocked at how many empty campgrounds were there the second night, especially after being told that there were no vacancies! We saw at least 5 on the Juniper loop alone!

Maybe the first ranger was having a bad day?

Either way the grounds are awesome, running water and clean facilities. Deer and elk welcomed us both mornings, great time.
