We stayed here because of its close proximity to Lake Martin, a beautiful place to hike and kayak, with lots of birds and a few gators too.

We arrived on a Sunday evening, and there was a little bit of a family crowd under a pavilion, but things quite it down pretty quickly and on Monday we have the place to ourselves.

The owner couldn’t have been nicer and really gave us a warm welcome.

We came in November during some cool weather and it was quite nice, both the hiking trails and when it warmed up a little, some kayaking. There were some mosquitoes in the swampy areas of the trails, but when the temperatures warmed up to 69° at night, the mosquitoes came out in hordes and way too many found their way inside our RV. We never figured out how they were getting in, unless they were coming right through the screens. We picked up and left the next day.

Not enough Verizon signal at our campsite but there was two locations out on a couple piers by the water where you could download emails and send texts.

Arrived on a Monday afternoon November 2, 2021. About 5 campers total including 3 Hosts.. very quiet. Lots of room between site. Only strange thing was a street light next to our site, so we had to close our curtains at night.

The most level sites we have ever found. Now they would only drill a well. Great hiking trail!

We spent the previous night at the Santee coastal reserve, another dispersed camping area whose turn in is directly across from the turn in to Elmwood. But over at the Santee preserve, we got eaten alive by deer flies! Unbelievable! Over here, no bugs! And two bars of Verizon depending on which site you picked.
