Hole in the rock road is where most adventures jump off from in Grand-Staircase, so this is a great place to base out of. The campsites are 2 minutes from the main highway so you do not have to take your rig down miles of dirt road, and Escalante is only 10 minutes away.

There are an infinite number of campsites as it's mainly a big field with juniper trees dispersed throughout. It can get a bit dusty if the wind is really whipping, but otherwise a fantastic area. You are supposed to get a permit to camp anywhere in Grand-Staircase, which is free at the visitors center in Escalante, but I have yet to see a ranger.

The cell signal is usable on Verizon with 10mb up and 1mb down, ATT is better at 11mb and 5mb down, T-Mobile is only 4G so only .3mb up. The tower does not seem to be overloaded so it is pretty consistent.

In Escalante you can dump your tanks at the petrified wood state park for $5+$8 entrance fee, no potable water, for that go to the Grand-Staircase visitors center, where you can fill jugs for free. There is laundry at the Canyons of Escalante RV park. Beware that nobody carries single ply toilet paper around here! :D

You cannot beat the views from here. There is a small area at the base of shadow mountain that will accommodate 15 campers or so, it's all dispersed and easy access to some of the sites. I would not recommend bringing a big RV out here, only for small campers or van/tent. You can also continue up shadow mountain to find more sites all along the road and at the top. It's always quiet and peaceful, the bugs can be very bad at times. This is my home in the summer.

If you need some peace and quiet away from the state parks this is the place to go. The other reviewer made it sound like you have to stay at least a week which is not true, it is cheaper to, but you can stay as little as one night which you can do on their website. It's a simple gravel lot, but for $35 which includes electric and water, you can't beat it in this area. You are located very close to some great beaches and dining. Even during spring break this place had open spots, so when you realize that you can't get into the state parks, come here!

Everyone else has said how great this place is, and I agree, so I will give some tips on how to get a site in the busy summer months.

In the summer this campground typically fills by 8am, which you can check here https://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/cgstatus/cgstatus.cfm or see the past fill times here https://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/cgstatus/camping_detail.cfm?cg=Many%20Glacier , but it's even more complicated than this, people line up as early as 2am to get in line for a spot!

Many Glacier works differently than most campgrounds, each night they put up a barrier to keep you from looking for sites like you would in most campgrounds, instead you line up in order, and at 7am the rangers come out to assign you a site in the order you arrived, hence the insanely early arrivals. We arrived at 4am out of paranioa of not getting a site over Labor Day weekend, but this proved to be a waste, the next person did not arrive till 5am, and most did not show up until 6am, there was a line of 10 people or so. Apparently by Labor Day it is starting to slow down a bit, but in July and August plan on getting there very early if you want a spot. After Labor Day the reservation only sites become open to first come first serve, so in my opinion this is the time to be here.

The rangers were great, we requested a site with good solar and they set us up right next to the river with good sun. Most of the site in the 70-90 range have decent solar, but most of the sites in the campground do not.

There is zero cell service here, you will have to drive all the way to Babb on that horrible road if you want any, but we had Verizon LTE there.

Oregon state park continue to impress me! This place is very clean and well maintained, not as updated as some of the other parks, but it's a bargain for full hookups. The vibe is very laid back and mellow, no screaming kids and the sites have decent spacing with quiet a few trees for some privacy. The showers are a joke, no temperature control, just push the button and get luke warm water for 2 minutes. There isn't a whole lot to do in this area, so if you're the adventurous type I wouldn't plan on staying here long, the beaches are incredibly windy and cold to boot.

We first tried to stay at lower lehman as a recommendation from the ranger, it was full though so we decided to explore baker creek, what a great decision. We had this beautiful area to ourselves, complete with aspens, creeks, fantastic beauty and silence in abundance. There are pit toilets and water in the summer, off season rates are $6, summer is $12. Cell was limited, I don't recall exactly what we had though.

This is the place for you! It's a little tight, but got the 25 footer in okay, took a lot of leveling and it was a bit muddy from rain. There was only one other camper here so it was super quiet and relaxing. The BLM obviously never comes out here as there was no TP in the bathroom. The petroglyphs are nothing to write home about, but this was a great place to stop overnight while driving the loneliest road in America. No cell coverage on Verizon or ATT

Fantastic campground that is primarily used for equestrian trail riding by the locals, they are very quiet and respectful. The sites are right next to a river which I was not able to catch any fish from...If you continue past the stables there is a an amazing site right on the river that is very private. The road in is a long dirt road that is in good shape with a few potholes towards the end. We left our trailer here for a couple nights to go backpacking in the beartooths with no issue. The biting flies were pretty bad, but other than that it was awesome. There are 2 more campgrounds in this valley that are worth researching as well. There is no cell service at the campground, but if you drive back to the bridge you can get AT&T 4G.

Craters of the moon is quite the site to see, and you will be camped right in the midst of it here. The sites are very close together, some so close you can smell your neighbors dinner. Overall the campground is clean, although you will get dirty from the lava covered ground! I had no cell signal here, although I could pick up a little verizon driving around the loop in COTM.

The sites here are very small and some extremely unlevel, stay far away from site 33, I had to use a hi-lift jack to get more blocks under the jack to even get level front to back. Most of the other sites were relatively level, but very small. I saw a couple 26' trailers that either had to drive through the grass to park parrallel in their spot, or come in at an angle, just beware that the website may say you fit when you may want to check it out first. The only large spot we came across is spot 40.

Great experience otherwise, campground is nice, has trash, pit toilets, fire rings, and water. Montana de oro is a beautiful place. If you are a photographer or surfer beware that Hazard Canyon Reef is 'protected' by some local surfer 'bro's'. We were warned by one of the nicer surfers that it is a major problem here and they go to great lengths to protect 'their' secret spot, going as far as slashing tires of unwelcome surfers or throwing photographers cameras on the rocks.

Cell signal is very spotty in the campground, in the first loop you might be able to pick up ATT 4G, most likely will need a good booster, otherwise nothing works. But, if you drive/walk over the hill near the visitor center you get blazing fast ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile, so checking in is easy.
