My wife found out about this place and it looked like fun so we thought we'd check it out. Originally planned on only staying one night, but we were enjoying ourselves so we added another night. The resort is very clean and there's plenty of lodging options. Campsites with electric and water, campsites with full hook ups, nice cabins and airstreams. Wifi was easily accessible and the signal was strong. There are two really nice bathhouses with complimentary toiletries and towels provided. One of bathhouses has private outdoor showers which was pretty cool. The large covered patio was very comfortable, and it was nice that they had ice water all day and coffee and snacks in the morning. There's a food truck on site with tasty breakfast and dinner options. The real attraction to the property though, was the drive in theater with nine classic cars that you could sit in and enjoy a different movie every night. The theater had an airstream concession stand with complimentary popcorn and other snacks for purchase. It's definitely a unique property in a great location and we'll be visiting there again on our next trip through Escalante, Utah.

This is a very popular campground next to Brainard Lake with some sites first come - first serve and others are reservable. The Elk loop is more open and farther away from the lake. The Moose loop is heavily wooded and closer to the lake. All sites in both loops are pretty well spaced apart with plenty of room. The scenery is spectacular and there's plenty of hiking trails, but you are at 10,350ft so be prepared for the thin air. It's also an easy lake to just walk around and enjoy the surrounding beauty. Moose sitings are common although we didn't see any on our visit. I really enjoy this campground, but it's not always that easy to get a spot because it is so popular. Best chances if you don't have a reservation is to come early on a weekday.

It's been 12 years since I last camped at Winding River Resort and it was great to be back. The resort is only about 10 - 15 minutes away from downtown Grand Lake and right outside the west entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The kids absolutely loved visiting the small animal farm where they got to pet the pigs, goats and sheep and watch the chickens and ducks in their pens. The campground is large and spread out with nice views and most sites being pretty level and fairly well spaced apart. Some are in the open and others are nestled in the trees and brush. There's two separate bath houses at each end of the resort and both are very clean with nice showers. There's so much to do with onsite horseback riding, atv rentals, fishing or wading in the adjacent Colorado River and beautiful hikes right outside the resort. Got to watch a bull moose cross the river on one of our hikes! Several times over the course of our stay, we encountered one of their burros and a horse wandering free in the campground which was pretty cool to see. I asked a staff member if that was normal and he said "Yeah...isn't that great!?" I can only think of one thing I didn't like and that was the mosquitoes. They weren't bad the first couple of days but were pretty annoying the rest of our stay. Even with the mosquitoes, I'd still highly recommend this resort and will be back in the fall for another visit.

Very nice campground in a beautiful area. Majority of the Pine trees have been removed due to the Pine Beetle infestation, but there's enough young Aspen trees and other vegetation to provide decent privacy between sites. Campsites have electric hookups with decent spacing between most of the sites. The lake is small and can get busy along the shore with everyone fishing, but we were able to find a spot and catch some fish. Definitely would come back. We got lucky and were able to reserve a spot the week before due to a cancellation but was told by other campers that they had to book there's several months in advance.

Love this campground. We try and camp here at least twice a year, but you have to make sure and make your reservations way ahead of time or hope for a cancellation ("B" loop is open year round on a first come first serve basis during the winter). It's definitely a popular campground with four large loops (total of 239 campsites) that are a mix of tent only and rv sites, with several that are large enough for up to a 40 foot motorhome. Some of the sites are pretty close together, but each loop has some great sites as well. My favorite is the "C" loop that has several sites overlooking the Moraine meadow. Our last visit was early October, and we spent the evenings around the campfire enjoying the sounds of the elk bugling, owls hooting, and coyotes yelping.

This is a really nice campground in the Rocky Mountain National Park with fantastic views. We were expecting most of the camp sites to be wide open with limited trees due to the pine beetle infestation that hit the area pretty hard, and that was the case for the C and D loops, but the views from those sites was spectacular. Our site (A015) was on the end of the A loop where there are still plenty of trees to provide some shade but still nice views of the mountains. There was a mix of sites stacked pretty close together and some with enough space to provide a little privacy. The only reason I don't give this a 5 star review is that there were quite a few sites that were pretty close to each other. Our neighbors were not too close, and there was nothing behind us but a hill with young pine trees and a trail halfway up. The campground was pretty quiet and the bathrooms were kept clean. At the entrance to the campground is a shuttle stop where you can catch a ride down to the Estes Park visitors center or up to Bear Lake and several stops in between. All in all, this was a pleasant surprise and definitely worth returning to.
