A Baker landmark since the early 90s, the thermometer was built as part of the now defunct Bun Boy restaurant and motel complex. It was built 134 feet tall to commemorate the 134 degree temperature recorded just up the road in Death Valley, one of the hottest places on earth. Numerous tourists on their way to Vegas and Los Angeles continue to stop in Baker to take a picture and check the temperature, usually while enjoying a cold milkshake from the Mad Greek or some Dried meat from Alien Fresh Jerky across the street.
