So this review is more of a review from a tourist perspective and not on the building itself. Saw it from the distance so went to check it out, and unlike the Empire State Building or or other super tall skyscrapers, you can’t up in this one. So that was a major bummer. Maybe that’s because Kingpin’s headquartered is up there 🤷🏽♂️
Quiet and peaceful little park with a beautiful view. Good place to stop and have lunch or hang out
You can actually drive your car on the beach. And you don’t need 4 wheel drive. But don’t make the rookie mistake I did. Keep your tires dry and stay away from the really wet sand otherwise your tire treads get caked and then you’ll get stuck. Luckily a couple guys with a Jeep and a strap were able to pull me out.
Such a peaceful place to come and spend a few hours. Just stopped here and the local otters love to put on a show for people. There’s also a bunch of grind squirrels that hang out here, who’ve apparently been very well fed.
Cool little spot to pull of the road and hang out. Not much to see besides a few trees that are super sun bleached, but it is one heck of a view from on a clear day
Really nice place to hike. Also tons of places for picnics, as well a few spots to camp. The ridge trail does get really warm though in the early afternoon due to their not being much shade so make sure you plenty of water available. Definitely recommend to hike the stream trail, which takes you through a whole bunch of massive redwood trees and is absolutely beautiful.
Absolutely breathtaking park. The water is a shade of blue that you will not find anywhere else. Definitely recommend driving the rim trail and seeing the lake from all different angles. Also check out the boat tour if you have time, which goes out to wizard island.
One of the best views in the entire Bay Area (when the view is clear). Parking around is tough to find with all the tourists but is very much worth the view.
Also try coming here at night on a clear night to see the bridge lit up with the city skyline behind. Truly an exceptional view!
Couple things that you should know before going on this hike.
1. While there is a lot of shade, this is a decently tough hike and not for people who are out of shape.
2. It is not dog friendly once you reach the beach because there is a very steep cliff you need to go down. Fortunately someone put a rope that goes most of the distance down the cliff to help you safely descend. However this could be pretty hard for your four-legged friend.
3. It takes about an hour and a half to reach the beach from the parking lot so make sure you leave yourself enough time to get back before the sun goes down because there are some spots along the trail that look like they get pretty dark after sunset. Not sure if there’s mountain lions out here but wouldn’t be surprised.
4. Bring enough water and food for the hike. Not sure if the falls are fresh or salt water, but don’t want to put myself in a position where I’d have to try it.
With all that being said, it’s an awesome hike with an incredible view and well worth the trek!
Beautiful views that are pretty hard to find elsewhere. Not a very big parking lot, but definitely worth a stop. There’s also a pathway that leads out towards the ocean, with a little deck at the end. Pretty cool spot
