We stayed in the loop without shade, but we were close to the pit toilet and had great views of the lake and mountains in the background. It was in the high 80s in mid-may so be sure to pack in plenty of water.

This campground offers 25+ walk up sites which makes it a great choice for an impromptu weekend trip. We visited over Father’s Day weekend, and there were still open sites, although the temperatures were in the 90s so may have deterred some. Due to the high temps, we didn’t spend time on the trails, but there were two nice beaches on site. The sites in the 600s were spacious and shaded. The 900s seemed smaller with less shade. I didn’t check out the other loop. Be sure to visit Hamburger Haus in Dundee and Kelley Country Creamery in Fond du Lac for some great ice cream.

We arrived in mid-May to a hail storm but after the weather cleared it was a perfect 65 degrees. Setup camp on the lower number sites to hear the creek babbling. There is also a trail beyond the creek that leads to a gate and beautiful mountain views on the other side of the forest. It was a pleasant drive to Capitol reef for more spectacular views and hiking. We visited all the Utah parks and this was our favorite area. If you’re headed to Bryce, HWY 12 won’t disappoint.
