I visited Mayfield Park & Preserve while passing through Austin on a road trip recently and it was a lovely and enjoyable experience. There are two sections to explore:

To the left is an enclosed garden with stone walls, pathways and structures, an historic cottage, water lily ponds, palm trees and peacocks that freely roam around the property. It has a bit of a "secluded whimsical eerie old english style charm", although we did go on a day that was overcast and rainy, which may have contributed to setting the mood for the vibe.
Note: Don't forget to look up...the peacocks fly and love to perch themselves high up in the trees and on the roof of the cottage.

To the right there are walking and hiking trails that guide you down several paths throughout the surrounding grounds, each leading to something different and special for you to discover and admire - namely, strategically placed art sculptures, a creek with caves and frogs, and Lake Austin.

It's a free, quick and easy nature escape from the bustling city, so bring a picnic and your camera and enjoy!
