Great trails and all around stunning location. Very powerful to see the seas come together. It's worth the drive!
Stunning blue beach and white sand. Everyone told us to come here because it was just like being in Rarotonga. They were right!
Unfortunately the road was closed and we couldn't camp here (but it would have been fantastic). Beautiful long stretch of beach and loads of space for campers. Instead we had some fun just running around on the beach and had the whole place to ourselves. May you be as fortunate!
Fantastic museum and beautiful grounds! As travelers visiting from abroad, I am sooo glad we made our way here early in our trip. I feel we have a much better understanding of New Zealand and Maori history. The entry fee is $50 but it's good for 2 days and includes a guided tour. My suggestion would be to visit the museum first and then take the tour. You'll have a lot more questions to ask the guide. :)
An older park but clean. Staff was friendly and location is great. Close to Brick Bay Sculpture center, which is a stop we would recommend.
Beautiful hike through the forest and the description written is spot on. We even watched a free song and dance show performed by the birds.
And, the cafe at the trail head looks like a nice spot.
Ben and Lisa are the owners and builders of this Fibonacci inspired resort. As fellow sailors, we had an instant connection that made our time here in Tonga more impactful than we could have imagined.
This is a magical homemade resort in a destination built for the adventure traveler.
We came in looking for the specialty, Rio Grande Oyster Rockafeller, but instead we found it’s Sushi Monday!?!
You’re probably thinking what we were thinking “Sushi, in the middle of the desert, on a Monday?!? Sounds like a recipe for Montezuma's revenge.”
But, according to a fellow diner at the bar we’re lucky to be here on Sushi Monday as “it only happens two times per month, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.” So, we ordered a few rolls and loved them. An unexpected delight out in the desert.
Make sure you order a drink with Sotol. Its liquor distilled from the Sotol plant, similar to tequila but with a slightly different flavor.
