When road-tripping between the NW Suburbs of Chicago to Durango, CO where our daughter, SIL & grands are, this could not be more of a mid-way haven for us. Easy on/off to the interstate, gas station options, etc. There are also plenty of restaurant options within walking distance, including breakfast if your itinerary calls for a departure earlier than the free breakfast is served (us 50% of the time!). We’ve walked around the trading post to stretch our legs after a long day of travel and to smile at the curiosities there, and we once visited the Golden Spike Tower which was an interesting POI.

Staff is helpful, rooms are clean and comfortable (we usually get the King Suite room), a perfect place to rest along our journey. There’s a nice parking lot, too - so many places short-shrift this space making it impossible to park, unload and/or feel comfortable about your car getting door-dinged all night. We’ve not taken advantage of the deck but likely will on our next trip.

I took away one star for the breakfast and the somewhat dated decor. Breakfast is great for the kids, but not quite the hearty one you want for another 10 hour driving day. A refresh to lobby and rooms would be welcomed.

All in all though: a fantastic place to hang your hat, lay down your head when passing through.

We’ve stayed at the Residence Inn five times over the last four years, ranging from a weekend to 7-, 10- and 12-days in duration. Here’s why we love this place:
- They offer an attractive long-stay rate for stays 12 days or more
- The breakfast and breakfast-making/serving staff ROCKS here - consistently (with nearly 35 servings to base this on!) the food and options and wait staff are absolutely top-notch
— Of note: we stayed at the nearby “newer” Fairfield Inn down the street for a short trip in 2019 and were appalled at their management of the breakfast hour - from having food ready, to chaos in the serving and dining areas, addressing customers’ questions, making coffee, emptying trash, clearing tables it was an utterly unacceptable experience.
- The room has space, amenities and is very comfortable/homey*
— A fridge, stove, microwave, pots/pans, tableware - let us have options for lunch, Happy Hour, picnic-/boating-day prep
— Plenty of charging plugs and surface space (e.g., desk, end/couch tables, bedside, dressing table)
— A king-sized bed
— A walk-in shower
— Plenty of bathroom counter space & lighting
— Great wireless connectivity
* Of note: we’ve been there during some storms that did affect TV reception... Not a biggie though
- Location
— Albertsons, Liquor World are nearby
— The Holiday Inn across the street has a nice restaurant/bar
— An incredible dog park is within walking distance; the Animas River runs alongside it
— There’s a nice Animas River walk nearby, too
— It’s not on the Main Avenue - we found this a big plus, being separate from the tourist crowds and traffic**
** Of note: this hotel is just off Highway 160 so walking across the street or getting out of the parking lot requires patience and care, depending on time of day/year.
- The staff is friendly, helpful, accommodating and completely non-obtrusive

Enjoy your stay!!!
