This ended up being our favorite stop in Salem. We are a couple of bookworms, so the literary history was incredible, but the history of the house and its connection to the surrounding area were very interesting. The architecture is beautiful and the tour guide was amazing. The house holds a lot of fun secrets. We would definitely tour it again!
We were driving somewhere else and stumbled upon this. Come to find out the park features a statue of Rochambeau and a monument to the French soldiers who fought in the American Revolution. The monument is on the spot the French contingent first landed in the colonies. Great views of the harbor!
The drive was fun, but with the number of houses and taller trees/grass, it’s tough to call it an ocean drive for very long.
Quaint little town, great for a quick stop or extended stay. We just stopped in for dinner, but it was worth the side trip and we could see ourselves coming back to stay in a local hotel.
Our tour guide was incredible and very knowledgeable, fielding many tough questions from the rest of our group. The house and all the work that has gone into preserving it are astounding and the history of Sam and his family is fascinating. A must for any history, literature, Americana fan!
Definitely a giant cow whose eyes will haunt us forever
Excellent sculpture, bringing a classic painting to life. The purpose of the monument as a tribute to mothers and the local boys and girls was touching.
Not purple but still a colorful dragon/snake on the side of the road
