First you should understand that this is the original building that became what is now Iowa State University. It originally housed the faculty and some students who Iived on the model farm from which future farmers would be instructed and practice their trade. It is larger and better furnished than a typical family home of the era.
The house and its furnishings are well maintained and typical of the time period. In addition to the contents of a typical house, it also contains amenities you might find in a well established business or home of affluence.
When I visited admission was free, though donations are accepted. The curator for my visit was very attentive, knowledgable and helpful.
