Nice, quite campground with water and electric only. The bathhouse was directly behind us. They are very clean but need some maintenance. Rusty the host was very friendly. Andrew the Ranger was very friendly too.
The lake and office is about a half mile from the campground.
Site 7, 2 bars Verizon, 20A & 30A only, Water, no sewer. Does have a dumping station. Fairly level site. Had to lift one side about 1.5" and the front about 3". Dirt/sandy site.

Beautiful new RV resort. Large, level sites. Large, very clean, showers/restrooms. Very quite during quiet hours. Loads of amenities for adults and children.
All the staff members went out of there way to be friendly.
Keep in mind though, it is a resort with resort prices, for everything. But I think it’s worth it.
My only complaint was that they ran out of free appetizers an hour early at a welcome reception.

Great campground to escape the sweltering summer heat. Great sunsets and mountain views too.
It is usually 20 degrees cooler there than where we live, just 2 1/2 hours away.
And the views! Wow! Most sites have great views. Some don’t though so check the website carefully before making your reservations. However, you can always join others at the observation deck near the office to see the sunset over the mountains.
It is rustic though. No hook-ups. It’s still better than boondocking. They have flush toilets in several locations and hot showers in the center of the campground.
Again don’t expect tile floors but the facilities are more than adequate for a true camping trip.
When the elk are in the area, you might see them strolling through camp at sunrise.
The owner and hosts were always nice and friendly to us.
We’ve already made our reservations for next year. Hope to make this our summer retreat for years to come.

The market is open every Saturday from 9 to 12.
You will find fresh, local, seasonal produce, shrimp, oysters, poultry, beef, pork, eggs, bread and cheese.
Plants, ferns, camellias, azaleas, citrus trees and beautiful, fresh cut flower bouquets.
Check out the fabulous prepared food vendors serving; BBQ, dumplings, she crab soup, crab cakes, paella, coffee, baked goods, bagels and breakfast sandwiches.

Great location! Great campground & park.

If you are RV’ing in Charleston, SC, this is the place to camp: 15 minutes to downtown Charleston, 15 minutes to Folly Beach.

The campground is well maintained, with very spacious sites. We stayed in site 73. The site had a slight crown in it. We backed in one time and boom, perfectly level from side to side and almost level longways.

We were close to the bathhouse so the WiFi was good as well. (The WiFi antenna was on the bathhouse roof.)

The bathhouses are clean and modern. The shower stalls are small but adequate.
The campground store has souvenirs, ice, some food (no bread), bicycle rentals, propane firewood, etc. The staff was very friendly.

But the Park! Wow, I think we could stay in the park for two weeks and still not have time to enjoy all the available activities.

We were only able to stay 3 nights this trip, but we plan to stay here next time we’re in Charleston.

Nice large park in the Columbia metro area. It has a medium size lake for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing and has several nice trails, (some concrete, some natural.)
We stayed in site 19. The site was perfect for our teardrop setup. It is close to the bathhouse and the site was almost perfectly level.
The bathhouse was clean, but is showing it’s age. Only one shower and 2 stalls. However due to COVID-19, it was limited to one person at a time.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
The only negative was the lack of campground etiquette of some of the other campers. Some would cut through occupied sites instead of walking down the road to the restrooms.
The campsites in Loop 1 seem to be a lot more level and spread out than Loop 2.
We had 2-3 bars on Verizon.

Great find!

If you visit in person, don’t expect a fancy store in a retail strip. This is a true entrepreneur enterprise from their farmhouse at the end of a gravel road. But don’t let the appearance fool you. If you are really looking for a great soap, they have it, from insect repellent soap, to medicinal soaps!
Check out their extensive list online at https://www.soapshed.com/

If you go, try to go when they aren’t busy on the chance you can talk to the chemist/owner, Professor Robert T. “Tiny Tim” Tyndall. What a delightful man!

We went when they were closed due to the COVID Pandemic, but happened to pull up while Tim was in the driveway getting ready to leave. He patiently told use they were closed, but would go get us anything we wanted.

I explained I was looking for something for dermatitis. After a few more questions, he went inside and returned with a $15 bag of remedies.

Then we struck up a fascinating, 30 minute conversation on how they got into the business. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Oh yea, after using the Tea Tree oil soap for 2 weeks, my condition has cleared up considerably! I am a believer now and have reordered more.

The campground is old and needs a little maintenance, but we loved it. Great views, close to Blowing Rock, Boone, and hundreds of hiking trails.

We originally had reservations for site A14, but was allowed to move to site A32. Loop A is mostly tent sites. A14 is a side-of-the-road, pull thru RV site with very little room between the road and the curb. Lots of shade though. There are three steps leading up to the tent pad and picnic table. It was not ideal for our teardrop camp setup. So, we asked if we could move to A32.

Site A32 is a wide back-in site. It is almost level side to side, but falls a little toward the back. The border curb traps water in the back but not too bad.

We liked A32 best because it was in a meadow, with lots of sun for our solar panels and not too close to any other sites on the sides or behind it. It is a favorite grazing site for deer at sunrise.

Large rigs might have trouble in Loop A, B, C, & D. The roads are narrow and curvy. Beware of edge drop-offs. Some are severe.

Assume no cell service because it is hit or miss. We were able to get text messages and phone calls occasionally but no internet. Sites D7–D13 is the only area we could get usable internet, 2-3 bars LTE on Verizon. I had some success down the road at the picnic area as well. We drove into Blowing rock to get a strong signal.

Lastly, the only showers in loop D are great but you may have to stand in line when the campground is full.

This is a favorite campground for locals and tourists. Beware it gets packed on holiday weekends. We stayed the week before Labor Day and was great until Friday.

We will visit again.

Site A32
Paid $20 per night.
No hook-ups

The best Tomato and Okra (anything) Soup I’ve ever tasted. It had just a tad of sweetness that made the combination pop. The second bite included a pleasant surprise, a piece of smoked sausage. And then, “what is this?” A shrimp! Wow! I topped it off with a little of Gwen’s sweet, buttery cornbread, and it was unbelievable. A “must try” even if you don’t like traditional tomatoes & okra.
It takes a lot to make collards taste good, but Gwen has it figured out. I can’t explain how good they are, but they are fantastic. Don’t forget to save some cornbread to sop up the “pot liquor”. The combination is wonderful.
Gwen Mervin, the owner and chef, was delightful. We were perfect strangers, but she seemed genuinely excited that we loved her food.
We will return, hopefully many times, when in the area.

Nice break from the summer heat. They have options for a 45-minute, 2-hour, or 4-hour tour. The longer tours you will get muddy from head to toe. The tour guide we had, Jasmine, was great. She is a geologist and was passionate about the cave. Although we did not make it to Ruby Falls, we were told this one was better because it is rarely over crowded.
