Self-guided walk through the old buildings. Lots of rusty old items and notes about everything so you can understand what you’re looking at. It’s hokey, but for kids learning about the Old West or Pioneer days, it’s a great place to explore (carefully! Buildings are not structurally sound!).
Twelve stores all dedicated to the art of quilting, Themed around common fabrics or styles. Beautiful old buildings put to new use as a quilting Mecca. My kids enjoyed the beautiful colors and designs. There’s a guy’s lounge for anyone accompanying a quilter.
Nice bronze statue commemorating Noel Neill’s (actress who played Lois Lane) contribution to the Superman legend.
Definitely a fun roadside stop. They were having a mini Comic Con the last weekend of July when we visited, so lots of cosplay and food vendors.
Fascinating look into the iron ore industry that shaped Birmingham. All the kids and adults in our group from ages 1-40 enjoyed exploring. The visitors center in nice and air conditioned, yay!
Nice walking paths, lots to do and see. Portable toilets available at various points along the paths.
Beautiful walking paths with lots of big boulders to climb on. Creek running over rocks to create multiple waterfalls. Currently only portable toilets available at one entrance.
Also a really great playground- huge with rock climbing walls, swings, multiple slides, etc. We came back later because your $10 parking fee allows reentry.
Nice sandy beach by the lake. Parking was convenient and it was not too crowded for a Saturday.
Decent place. As another reviewer noted, breakfast is only grab and go, but the rooms were comfortable and clean.
