As first time visitors to South Carolina, we had experience with fresh water fishing, but none with inshore fishing, so we were looking forward to our charter with Captain Jamie. Unfortunately, our excitement was short lived. Our “lovely” afternoon started with Captain Jamie being 15 minutes late to meet us at the dock, and digressed from there. He spent the majority of our 4 hour tour making and receiving personal phone calls, he was surly, and short tempered, and he had the audacity to yell, yes literally yell, at us when he thought we were scaring his fish away. He equated our photo taking to Japanese tourists, which as tourists from out of state, it seemed only natural for us to take pictures of what we were seeing and doing. To make matters worse, he got our boat anchor hooked to another 2 boats, and as he tried to speed off to get our anchor unhooked, he nearly sunk the other 2 boats; and gosh, those other tourists and their guides looked mighty happy with Captain Jamie over that. The charter was awful, and when we finally got around to fishing and catching fish, no one wanted to participate after 3 hours of verbal abuse and disrespect. We were his customers and he treated us terribly. Captain Jamie not only lacks ‘Southern Charm,’ but basic respect, and he should stick to fishing by himself in tournaments where he doesn’t have to inflict his poor behavior on tourists who are willing to pay for a happy experience on the South Carolina coast.
