It was the perfect stay, even though it was 3 years ago. The room was immaculate, the hosts were kind and considerate, even during the pandemic. The stay was near the end of a very long driving trip across the country and back, and I slept very well and was refreshed the tail end of the trip. As much as possible, this will be added to any driving trips I take in future.

Did you know that if you are lugging luggage to your room down the accessible ramp while walking with a cane at the right time you could get every surrounding sprinkler to get you wet? I did …

The bathroom had a window for ventilation … with a lovely collection of spider webs gracing it on the outside.

Oh, and let me tell you about the wonderful lack of ventilation, not even forced air. Of course, it did have a heater and fireplace … just the sort of things that one would turn on in late May …

But, at least we had company … from all the darling pillbugs that kept invading the front hallway and bathroom …

The bed had a soft mattress, with just the right amount of give to threaten to send you off and onto the floor, if you slept too close to the edge …

It was a place to sleep … but I don’t think we’ll come again. After all, why ruin perfection … ?

It was a place to sleep. Parking not included. Pet fees exorbitant ($75 PER pet PER night). Breakfast only complimentary to Hilton members. Don’t think I’ll stay there again.

After a grueling trip on a Princess cruise ship back in 2004, having consumed only ship fare of piddling quality, we took advantage of our excursion to Sitka and found the first restaurant closest to the dock near Lincoln Street, which happened to be Agave.

The food there was tasty, hearty and filling, a rescue from what we had been eating on the ship. We savoured it and enjoyed the atmosphere, which was professional yet family-friendly. The service was welcoming and polite.

It is with joy that I looked today to see that the restaurant is still open after all this time. Whenever we stop at Baranof Island, this is the place we'll eat at ... and you ought to as well.

This hotel was the best we could have possibly hoped for on this trip. The room, the bed, even the bathroom, they were spacious and comfortable. We awoke refreshed and treated like we were valued customers.
