We stopped in this park on our way to Glacier NP. We absorbed the essence of the badlands from the Painted Canyon rest stop just before entering the park. The view is breathtaking! I am so glad we stopped. However, I think that horseback travel into the park is a big draw, and we don’t do that activity.
The destination of our trip was to Glacier NP, then Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. Theodore Roosevelt NP was our first stop as we planned to stay overnight in a campground. We stopped at the Painted Canyon overlook rest stop and the scene was breathtaking. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to visit the Northern part of the park.
The park is on a beautiful site. We were surprised at the condition of the buildings and the lack of upkeep on this park. We talked to some folks who were walking through and found out that the park was damaged by Hurricane Katrina and there has been no financial support to renovate this historical park. We were very saddened that preserving the history of jazz in New Orleans has not a priority.
