Developed now. All ugly tract houses...
Interesting if you are into trains otherwise don’t bother. It was removed from the historical register in 2017. There’s a barbershop there now but the depot itself is still standing and in good shape. Was there at night- took a picture of one of the doors but it doesn’t do it justice...
AMAZING place to stop! It’s called “Swetsville Zoo” and looks like a old farm community. It’s a self-guided tour through part of the property. It looks like some of it is still residential and occupied although we didn’t see anyone else. There’s no charge but donations are welcome. There’s a Dropbox at the front of the main part of the “park.”
Very interesting stop. There is also a free museum across the street. The volunteers at both the Pony Express building and the museum were very knowledgeable about the area and history. Well worth the super quick detour!
OMG! This place looked so cute in the pictures! But it wasn’t... it’s right next to the interstate and the noise leaked into the room, the “single bed” was a FULL, and prices changed depending on who called and what side of the interstate you arrived from. If I hadn’t been so exhausted I was crying (literally) I would have gone somewhere else... NO, just no.... (it was clean, the A/C worked fine, and the smoking rooms are in a separate building...)
This is a stop for train enthusiasts and those who want to walk the dog, stretch their legs, have a picnic or enjoy looking at corn. There is a pull off with parking and a trash bin. It’s about a quarter mile walk along a paved trail to the via duct. It’s a really beautiful walk but no historical marker...
I love stuff like this... sad that it’s been graffitied, but people suck sometimes. We were here on a dry day, no major rain in the past few days, and had no problems getting there. There’s an alternate route that might be more maintained if you go past 350th street. (We saw a sign but the closer road was passable so we didn’t bother driving down any further.)

Why is this listed if it is online sales only?
We will driving from Colorado to Illinois in a rental car... Thinking if I get the extra insurance...
