Do the boat tour. Just do it. You could certainly enjoy the lakeshore from in-land, but nothing compares to the boat tour. You will be in awe and get the best pictures.
Consider doing the sunset tour (book early). If you’re going in cooler months (which can include June) consider bringing a blanket and warm layers. If it’s a windy day, you will be cold.
This is a large and well tree-covered KOA. Unfortunately, there was no way for us to enjoy it. It may have been the most mosquito-ridden place I’ve ever camped in. No exaggeration. I was willing to accept that was just the nature of the lakeshore area, but the KOA was the only area anywhere near as mosquito-infested. We hiked the inland areas of the lakeshore and were never bothered by bugs even half as much as at the Munising KOA. They’re clearly doing something wrong.
Very cute little campground with Mackinac Island in view. Sites are a bit tight and little wooden site markers create driving dangers. Fortunately those markers are easy to remove, but also easy to miss. Be sure to make your way down to the small beach and playground area to enjoy the waves of the lake and gorgeous views.
