“This tiny 1860 worker's dwelling has stood witness to a lot of changes in 157 years.”
The stone building underwent conservation works in 2017 and will have more work done in 2018. The recently updated displays give an insight into the lives of the families who lived in the cottage and their experiences on the Limestone Plains from the colonial period to the time when Canberra was selected as the site for the Federal Capital and during the construction of modern Canberra.
For the first time, the museum also tells the twentieth century story of the cottage.
Planned landscape and conservation work will begin in late April 2018. This will include exciting landscape works to interpret the original land uses and conservation of the slab building.
Bookings are not necessary unless bringing a large family group. Bookings for schools are available on Thursdays by emailing: nce@nca.gov.au
Please note: Blundell’s is over 150 years old, which means no air-conditioning and poor ventilation. From December – March, for not only your comfort, but also for your safety and that of the volunteers, Blundell’s Cottage may be closed. Check the NCA website for any closures.
