“Over 40 giant sequoia trees”
Merced Grove is a giant sequoia grove located near Crane Flat just inside the western boundary of Yosemite National Park north of El Portal and the Merced River. It is in the small valley of Moss Creek, accessible by short hike. It has 40 sequoias over 5 feet in diameter including around 15 over 10 feet in diameter.
This is a very small grove but has some big sequoias and not many people come on this trial. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the sign that says 1 mile to the grove and 2 miles to the twin bridges...never found the twins. It is mostly downhill, so remember that for when you return. There are many more things to see in Yosemite, so unless you are nearby or want to kill some time, I wouldn't recommend going here.
Hidden gem of Yosemite. Most people go to Mariposa, but this is less crowded. Good place for a picnic, but PACK BUG SPRAY!
