“a superb view of Yosemite valley”
Glacier Point is a viewpoint above Yosemite Valley, in California, USA. It is located on the south wall of Yosemite Valley at an elevation of 7,214 feet, 3,200 feet above Curry Village. The point offers a superb view of Yosemite National Park's Yosemite Valley, including Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, and Clouds Rest. Glacier Point can be reached from the Valley via Glacier Point Road. During the summer, Glacier Point is often crowded with tourists. Tours by bus are also available and take about four hours. The road is usually open from June through October. In winter, Glacier Point Road closes due to snow, and access to Glacier Point from the Badger Pass Ski Area is only by ski or snowshoe. Glacier Point can also be reached via the Four Mile Trail, which ascends the 3,200 feet in 4.6 miles. This moderate to strenuous trail can provide access to Glacier Point when the Glacier Point Road is closed. Note, however, that the trail can be extremely hazardous when covered with snow or ice, so is usually closed by the Park Service from December through May. Another 8.2 miles trail runs from Glacier Point down to the Valley, via the Panorama Trail, past Nevada and Vernal Falls.
Reviews
This is simply the best spot to see all of Yosemite Valley. The best part is you can just drive up and park, walking a very short distance to the point and take it all in. Great spot for night photography as well. If you visit Yosemite, Glacier Point is a must see!
Glacier Point is a wheelchair accessible, very easy trail with magnificent views of the valley. Parking can be difficult during peak times, so arrive early or late to avoid that frustration. Regardless of the parking situation, the drive up to the Point is just as picturesque with enough pull-outs to stop and capture the moment.
This was such an amazing place. The shuttle wasn't running this year. the only way up is the 4 mile hike. I am afraid of heights but the wife and I did it. So worth it. We are not avid hikers but we are in good shape. Took almost 5 hours to go up. Pack water and when you think you have enough pack more. Since the shuttle is not running there is no place to fill up water up top. Nothing is open. The bathrooms are closed. They do have a sort of outhouse there but you'd be better off in the woods.
Amazing place!! Views are unmatched! If you want a less touristy area of the park check out Tioga Pass.
A spiritually healing experience! Thank You John Muir!
Hiked this trail up to Glacier Point today and the view is simply breathtaking there is other way to describe it. You get a view of the whole valley and it is incredible
Breathtaking. No words or pictures can describe how beautiful. You will have to go to experience. Worth the drive or flight.
