“scenic parkway with few traffic signs”
Colonial Parkway is a 23-mile (37 km) scenic parkway linking the three points of Virginia's Historic Triangle, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. It is part of the National Park Service's Colonial National Historical Park. With portions built between 1930 and 1957, the Colonial Parkway links the three communities via a roadway carefully shielded from views of commercial development; a major effort has also been made to keep traffic signs and other modern roadside items to a minimum, and make them unobtrusive where unavoidable. This helps visitors mentally return to the past, and there are often views of wildlife and waterfowl in addition to the river panoramas near each end.
Scenic and pleasant drive.
Nice scenic drive with many little turn ins with historic info signs to learn tidbits of history on. Slow drive. Speed limit 45 with only a couple passing areas. Good views of the York river on this drive. During certain times and seasons a great time to see lots of wildlife ( mainly deer) . Fall is a pretty time to take this drive when the leaves are all different colors.
What's the clearance on those underpasses?
FYI speed demons, the speed limit is consistently really low here. Like 45 or 55, tops. If you're in a hurry or hate driving slow, maybe find another route. Personally, I found it really, really pretty, lots of forests and stuff, and it's a quick way to get between Yorktown, Jamestowne, and Williamsburg.
