Worth the drive , headed south , I81 toward I66 Front Royal into George Washington forest , right on the 758 ... up to the entrance ( rock with stairs on the side ) then come back I81 following down the mountain ! 👌🏼
The Woodstock Tower is at least 30 min off route 81. The drive to it is gorgeous and through the Washington National Forest. Once you get near, the road turns unpaved and curvy for about 5 Miles. Short hike to the tower, which felt a little shoddy, but the view is lovely. The road out, if you’re going South, is much shorter than the road in. It’s a nice detour if you have 1-2 hours and want to get off the monotonous Route 81 to see some nature.
I used Waze to find the tower. There will be parking on your left and right and once you find the stone steps follow that footpath to the tower. Great hidden gem with a very rustic tower and graffiti covered steps with incredible 360 views of the valley and mountains. This is a hidden gem: so be ware of the small steep roads, and enjoy. The forest service does have info on their website too and was easily found on google. Happy adventuring!
Tower road is closed on March 29, 2019. There’s a sign that is used for frequent closures. Check website before traveling. Bummer
