This small town city park was immaculate. Bit tight but doable with a 43' motorhome. Not all sites would handle that size rig but anything smaller is no problem.
Lots to do and see. This is the home of the Bridges of Madison County book and movie. Also John Wayne was born here and there is a nice museum and the house where he was born.
County historical museum up on the western hill has a good collection.
Nice place for bike riding looking at some the original victorian homes.
Cell service was excellent Verizon 22mbps down and AT&T 23.5mbps down

Peaceful campground in Winterset Iowa. Cute town! John Wayne birthplace and museum was neat to see. This is also where Bridges of Madison County was filmed.
The campground is only 34 sites. Most are FHU and only $20 a night!! Bathhouse is very clean and grounds are maintained. Hosts are super nice! The city park with trails, covered bridge, Clark Tower and playground is next to the campground.
We would definitely stay here again!

The town is beautiful. The Bridges of Madison County & John Wayne birthplace museum.
The courthouse is beautiful, as seen in many small midwestern towns

The city campground is located on the outskirts of Winterset. It's shaped like a long oval, on the inside of the oval are all the camper/motorhome sites. Those are packed pretty tight. The most spacious site was on the far end across from the tent area. At the far end of the oval are the tent sites. They have consolidated the tent sites from 12 down to 5. The 5 sites share 3 fire rings. Each site is quite spacious, lots of trees and shade. The grass was pretty long, but that's kind of expected this time of year. Camper sites were full up, but 3 tents sites stayed unoccupied. Call for a reservation, they do charge a $5 for that convenience.
I didn't count the electrical posts in the tent area, but there is shared access to electrical posts. No water. Ample parking for the 5 tent sites, but you cannot drive into your site, you must park in the designated area and carry your stuff in. Restrooms are a short walk for the tent sites. The facilities closest to the tent area, do not have showers.
Site #1 is in the very front. Folks without camping manners will park and walk right through that site without a greeting, stagger to and fro on their visits to see camping friends (my dog loved that at 10:30pm)....site #2 would suffer the same experience.
Camp hosts are incredibly kind and helpful. Great experience. Will absolutely camp here again, but carry my gear a little farther to avoid getting my protective puppy fired up at that time of night.

Delightful small city park at the edge of town (there is s rock works just beyond there trees that you can hear during the day). Covered bridge and memorial tower in the park. Nice walking plus easy walk to town center. Recommend the Iowa Quit Museum on the town square plus numerous small shops. We also drove around to see the other 5 covered bridges of Madison County, good activity when dodging rain drops. River looks good for quiet canoeing or kayaking in better weather, there’s a 6.5 mile river trail.

We stayed two nights and came for the Bridges. We found the town to be delightful and especially Doug at the Vintage Iron Shed. Anything cast iron he is “da man”!
Our site was on the lower side so we got some water runoff from the sites on higher ground. Some sites had full hook up but our sites just had 30 amp service and water. Overall, the camping and people were great.

I'm hesitant to write a review for this park because I'm afraid others will discover it and I won't be able to get in! Wonderful site. Easy to pull in and park. The only thing to be aware of is you share a water spigot with your neighbor. Not an issue since they provide the y-adapter. T-Mobile coverage was 120 mps down. Highly recommend this park!

Used this hidden gem as an overnight stop. It is in the county of Madison where the covered bridges are located. It is also John Wayne's birthplace and there is the obligatory museum. The park is lovely - generously spaced out sites, full hookups, trees or meadow. Appears to be some long term folks. All very friendly. Next to the actual city park. Definitely take a stroll around the grounds - many chainsaw statues, playground, 1 covered bridge, many walking paths. If your GPS take you to that park, the campground entrance is a couple blocks away to the east. There is no check-in. If you have a reservation, there will be a slip on your site post.

Rate of 22$ per night plus a one-time 5$ registration fee can’t be beat in my book.
Mix of full and partial hookups. Very clean. Plenty of walking if interested. Only museum dedicated to the “Duke” John Wayne located here in Winterset, his birthplace.
This is also host to a number of covered bridges and home to the “Bridge’s of Madison County” book and movie.
We stayed in site 37, full hookup, with our 40’ Tiffin, which opens to a large open area with a nice shade tree. The city park is collocated adjacent to the campground.
There is a large two section, fenced, dog park located on other side of ball and soccer fields, maybe 1/4 mile from campground.
Sites are not perfectly level, but with minimal effort level can be achieved, and gravel.
We definitely would stay here again if in the area. Might be a good base for visit to Des Moines.
