“one of the oldest plantations in the USA”
Explore one of the oldest surviving peanut plantations in the state of North Carolina. The Poplar Grove Plantation was owned by the Foy family for 6 generations, from the years of 1795 to 1971, and opened to the public as a museum in 1980. The present Manor House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is protected thanks to the continuing efforts of Poplar Grove Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to education, conservation, and preservation of the past. The plantation is also home to regular "psychic defense" classes by psychic medium Deb Bowen. Built by Joseph Mumford Foy around the year 1850, Poplar Grove Foundation, Inc. "preserves the homestead of a successful farming family", along with the outbuildings and crafts typical of a 19th century working community.

Great tour. House contains some Foy family furniture, including a "chamber chair" that I thought very unique. Nice job of keeping a property maintained. Big Halloween fund raiser coming up! Glad we included this stop on our trip.
