“family owned & operated since 1954”
Anvil Campground has been family owned and operated since 1954! In all, Anvil Campground has been in our family for three generations! The original founders of Anvil Campground were our Grandfather and our Father. Why are we named Anvil? Our symbol, the Anvil, comes from our family's tradition of blacksmithing. At Colonial Williamsburg from 1929 to 1935 our Great Grandfather and our Grandfather helped make their original wrought iron work (locks, hinges, shutter dogs, gates, etc). Our family is very proud of our history. To share some of our family's history with you, there is a display in our General Store. It has some of the types of items made by our family for Colonial Williamsburg. There is even our original Anvil!

Why we chose here? 4.5 miles from the centre of town & Passport America Park
Sites: 70, we stayed in site 53 which is a complete site. They have cheaper and more expensive sites, but this is the one we were given because of our size.
Facilities: Laundry $2.50 wash $2.50 dry, Bathrooms, Shop, Games Room, Pool
Groceries: Food Lion is nearby
Reservations: Yes
Cell Coverage / WiFi: Free wifi is not brilliant but works most of the time.
Date of visit: Mid May 2016
Other: There is a train line close by that does vibrate the bed when it passes, but it didn’t wake us up.

I will start by saying the people here were awesome! However, the campground is right in between the highway and RR tracks. The noise from the road was constant and several trains blowing horns through out the day/night. Although this is no fault of there own (aside from choosing their land) it was very annoying. The pool was small but clean, the store well stocked, sites were very close together.

Small but well kept park, located between a major road and the train tracks. Great choice if you're headed into colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. Sites are cozy, but very well maintained and marked.

Easy $3 daily bus ride to all Williamsburg has to offer. Wedged between road and active train tracks. Sites are well maintained with many having full hookups. Pool, playground, arcade, dog park, store, good WiFi - strong enough to stream MLB radio. Very friendly staff. We arrived after office closed and welcome packet was easy to find & use.

What sells this campground is the proximity to Williamsburg and Jamestown. It does have some nice amenities as well, such as a small pool, fun playground, dog parks and very nice bathrooms. Sites are right on top of each other and the train tracks are adjacent. Very nice staff, they had coffee each morning!
I will echo what others have said. We have a small trailer so we fit in a tent space. We were very close to the rr tracks but bothered my wife more than me. All sites were super super close. The owners were very nice and the bath house was very clean and modern. It is very convenient to Historic Williamsburg. I think I would choose to maybe find a place a little further out with more room. Also great WiFi.

The park is probably the most convenient to visiting historic Williamsburg. It is still out a bit, so you won't want to walk or bike (highway) but you can catch a bus directly in front of the campground or just take a 5-10 minute drive. The park owners have worked hard to fit as many amenities as possible into the limited space they have. There are several small fenced dog areas, two playgrounds, a small pool, a game room, a half court basketball pad, and horseshoes. Plus corn-hole to borrow and take back to your site. There is also a nice paved hiking/biking trail about 100 yards from the park. I found the park to be older but exceptionally well maintained. Everything had a fresh coat of paint and the staff worked very hard to keep everything looking nice.
This is a commercial park, so as expected, you will be close to your neighbors. However, I found the allocated space to be above average and didn't have any issues. There are a handful of longer-term residents though you may not know it because of how well kept those lots were. Most of the campers where short term visitors to Williamsburg. The one strange feature of the sites are that the utilities are actually located on your neighbors site. It's right against the lot line so no access issues, but since there are full hookups, you may have your neighbor's waste hose in your living space. Hopefully you have a considerate neighbor who hooks up to dump and then puts the stinky slinky back into storage.
And yes, it can be noisy with the train tracks on one side and the highway on the other. We learned to laugh it off, but if you are extremely sensitive to noise, this may not be the park for you.

Peaceful, activities for kids, hiking area across the road (be mindful of ticks!), Jamestown is close by along with Busch Gardens. Smaller campground in general and sites are tight but we enjoyed our weekend away!

This campground is sandwiched between a busy road and train tracks which runs often so the noise level is quite high. The first row of sites are only about 50 feet away from the tracks, we were in the second row of sites and we still vibrated when the trains pass by. The sites are small, there is no hot water in the laundry room, the WiFi doesn’t work for streaming on the tv (due to the required pop up screen for password entry) and we could do without the several speed bumps. But the staff is friendly and it’s close to a lot of activities (which is why we give it a second star). Even paying half price rate through Passport America (which they accept only Mon-Thur) it’s still overpriced. I would probably give it four stars if their nightly rate was $45 not $90 (and that’s for the “cheaper” spots).
