Close to Spruce Knob, which is the highest point in West Virginia. We went the weekend after Labor day and the campground was pretty empty. The sites are spaced out with lots of privacy. Some sites are tent-only. None have hookups but water is available to fill jugs. Vault toilets and bear-proof trash cans. No dump station. Zero cell phone reception. We arrived from the west via State Route 29 and Whitmer Road which was about 10 miles on a gravel road...would have been better to drive around the mountain on US 33 to Riverton, WV and then follow the Spruce Knob road. The campground is about 5 miles past Spruce Knob.

Nice campground right by the lake. There are at least 4 ways to get there but the roads are very narrow in places which would be hard to negotiate with oncoming vehicles. I wouldn’t recommend a fifth wheel or travel trailer unless small like a teardrop or pop up style. It’s doable but…. Two of the roads in are mostly paved. One has three hairpins, one unpaved. The other has one doable hairpin. We were in a Ram truck with a 25 ft travel trailer and did ok but we didn’t come face to face with an other vehicle.
