Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on May 02, 2020The state park was booked so we gave this place a try. So the good stuff: the office staff was really nice, showers were hot, bathrooms pretty clean, and we probably had the best spot in the park (86) which was just across an unused dirt road to the tent camping site. With no tenters, we basically had the entire forest for our view. Oh, and the WiFi was blazing fast, like living at home on a cable connection fast.
We were way up on a hill, and with washout it was a bit rough pulling our Airstream up the hill with our two wheel drive van, but we made it without scraping or any other incident.
There are a lot of permanent residents and seasonal spots here...but that's not actually a terrible thing in this part of Pennsylvania. Many campgrounds have these folks who just buy an RV, leave it at some specific place, and it's there weekend camp, summer camp, hunting base camp...so there's nothing particularly trashy or dirty about the permanent spots, but they're there.
I believe we're referred to as "transients"...kind of makes us seem like the riff raff. :)
That is not a view of the campground, though. I thought it was just fine, a bit pricey (like everything in this area) for what you get and I'd have preferred to stay in Hickory Run State Park just a few miles away if it hadn't been packed.

We were looking for a place that was going to be open late in the year after November 1, and this place was available. Full hook ups, and 30A is what we typically like to have. The cable TV was excellent with 40 plus channels, and free WIFI worked well enough. As for a location it was convenient to all that is recreation in Lehigh Gorge park area. We hiked the SHADOWS OF DEATH trail in Hickory Run state park, which was easy and not dramatic, but very beautiful with all the waterfalls and brook water flowing well. We also walked the Rockport Access dirt road in Lehigh Gorge State Park, which was very flat, and looked like a bicycle rail-trail (which is what it might be) right next to a large river with gorgeous scenery. --- Might have stayed cheaper at the state park campground nearby (it was open late , and has 30A service) so be sure to check that availability.

The location of this campground is convenient to Jim Thorpe and the Lehigh Gorge. While the bathhouses are very clean, OTA channels are nonexistent and our site wasn't very level.

Came here to camp during quarantine since it was close to home but a 15 min drive to Hickory Run State Park, which was closed. The campground is almost all seasonal rentals it appears. Generally not something we would chose. However the sites appear maintained and campers are all relatively new. Everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed the stay and would definitely come back again. We had WiFi coverage but it didn't work, I am guessing a system issue but we had ok cell coverage so no worries. Site was great, didn't even have to level side to side. Just backed until my electronic leveler said level and parked, that almost never happens.

Nice wide sites. The “roads” may be problematic for larger campers. Looks like this place caters to seasonal campers.
There’s a lot of junk laying around that should be cleaned up or towed away.
Some of the seasonal campers are showing signs of age. However the renters keep their sites well kept. The area between the site, however, could be better.
We were given both a military discount and a discount for paying in cash. Even without the discounts the rates are very reasonable (around $45 a night)

We tent camped - but lots of RV space available.
Nice and very helpful owners/operators. Pretty tent-camping area with lots of trees and shade. Friendly and quiet campers in the park while we were there. Good for family camping. The only draw back was road, train, and air noise. The park is close to all three modes of travel and you can definitely hear them, it isn’t enough to keep you up at night, but it isn’t the quiet of camping deep in the woods either.
