Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on June 02, 2023After discovering that EVERY campsite in Yellowstone was filled before noon in June, my family decided to venture west of the park. We're so glad we did. Because we found this gem. We camped on a sight that met the beach. We could stargaze from the sand at night! These sites are reasonably spaced - way more room than in Yellowstone. I would absolutely stay here again because it's only about 15 minutes drive from the park entrance and WAY less crowded.

We stayed here to prolong our visit to Yellowstone National Park. When we drove into the campground we were greeted by the camp host. We needed three sites as we had three campers. He was very friendly and helpful. He was very accommodating and had three sites we could get on first come first serve.
One of the sites had electric and the other two had no hookups. There were several potable water stations around the campground but you need a water hitchhiker to connect to them. At the main entrance there was a threaded faucet so you could hook to it and fill your holding tank before going into the campground.
Our fifth wheel is almost 41 feet long and we got it into site number 12 with little room to spare. But we enjoyed our stay here.

Our young family enjoys camping in organized campgrounds that offer more privacy and space. However for a trip to Yellowstone this is a great spot vs. the high density campgrounds found in the park. I had high hopes to snag one of the lake front sites when we arrived based on other reviews claiming that it wasn't crowded and always had some availability. We saw lots of rigs go by during our stay that were unable to get a spot.
We reserved site 20, which initially I was disappointed in since it's right by the bathroom but it turned out to be a pretty good spot. (They were the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground. I saw the camp host clean them several times a day.) We were able to take a path between sites down to the sandy beach to play. We'll reserve site 21 if it's available next time. The other lake front sites are walk ups and are pretty close together but offer fabulous views. Site 19 was another favorite, it's actually right on the lake even though the map doesn't seem to show that. Locals had snagged those and were staying for the full 2 week max. But you might get lucky if you show up on the right day!
We had a good time and I loved being on the lake. Overall a good little campground.

We stayed here right at the end of their season in late September. The camp host was extremely helpful and took impeccable care of the sites. I've never been to a forest service campground so well taken care of. The where the fire pits were emptied out, all gravel raked, and pit toilets stocked+clean. The lake front sites have beautiful views and water access. There are a couple electric sites here, too. They are only an extra $7/night. There's no dump station here, but there are water spigots throughout the loop for filling up water (not threaded).
My only complaint is the policy on vehicles. The nightly rate here is only $16, but there's an additional charge of $7 per extra vehicle. Rather than have a tow dolly for our car, my wife chases behind me while I drive the motorhome. Simply because we don't technically tow our car, we had to pay this fee. The sign and the camphost confirmed that we wouldn't have to pay this if we were towing our car, which I simply cannot see the logic of!
p.s. the season ended on the 4th day or our 6 day stay, so the next 2 nights were free! although they turn off the water & electric and seal up the trash, they still allow camping here for free, as long as you pack in/pack out and keep the sites clean.

Tried to camp at Cherry Lake, but road was snowed in (early May). Ended up at Lonesomehurst and had a great experience! Camp host was very helpful. We stayed the night of May 9th, and technically the season didn’t open until May 10th, so we were able to stay for free. Clean vault toilets and trash. No running water at the time, but it was going to be turned on the next day. Camp host told us regular season price was $20. Beautiful lake view

Very nice National Forest campground. Pit toilets, boat launch, water and several sites with electric. Nearly half the sites are waterfront on Hebgen lake. Some sites are spaceous while others are tight. @ 12 miles from the West Yellowstone park entrance. Friendly and welcoming host. Suggestion: arrive on mon/tue if you plan to get a lakeside walkup site. Compground was full by Fri afternoon. Water faucet closest to the campground host has threads so a hose can be attached.

We camped here for 6 nites.. it was a great place to stay and stay to go into Yellowstone park. The lake is beautiful and the vault toilets were so clean and always stocked well with toilet paper. The mosquitoes were a little bothersome at times of pm so come prepared for that. We would definitely stay here again. There were lakefront spots that were absolutely gorgeous but we have a 35 ‘ motorhome and tow dolly and had family joining us and setting up 2 tents so this spot was nice and big and could accommodate all our gear etc...

This CG is convenient to West Yellowstone. Host is congenial and keeps the cg clean. Some hook-up sites. Over half of the sites border the lake. My site was the most "private" and under a large pine tree but off the lake. There's not too much privacy between sites, and the loop road is dirt and had several potholes. I was able to get internet but YMMV.

I stayed at Lonesomehurst Campground while fishing in the area. From highway 20, the Denny Creek Road is mostly paved (watch the two curves that sneak up on you, they are not well marked!). The last half mile is not paved and has washboards and chuckholes. The campground loop road is heavily potholed. It was bad enough that we ignored the one-way sign to get to our sites so we could avoid the worst of the potholes.
There is only one water spigot with a threaded hose bibb. It is located across the road from the campground host's site. If you park your trailer to get water then you'll block traffic. I used a water bladder to get water so that I didn't block traffic. The water pressure wasn't very high. It took about 30 minutes to fill the bladder. There are a number of other water spigots spread around the campground, but a garden hose cannot be attached to them. There is a spigot next to site 24.
My site was easy to put the trailer in, even with a long bed crew cab truck. There was plenty of room to park the truck next to the trailer. A trailer over about 28' will be a tight fit in site 24.
The campground was clean. The host was at the vault toilets every day cleaning them.
The noise was pretty bad in the morning. While the sites are well spaced out, they aren't far enough apart for all the contractor generators that other folks were using.
The trees around site 24 are oriented well enough that I had plenty of sunshine for the solar panel on top of my trailer to get the batteries topped off each day.
