The springs are fairly simple to get to until you reach the last couple of miles when the road forks off the pavement and changes to an extremely rough, rutted out dirt road. If you can’t make it with your vehicle, it’s worth parking your car and walking the short distance in. As you continue down the canyon, the road carries you through a spectacular variety of scenery and runs adjacent to Bishop Creek. You will cross Bishop Creek a few times before finally reaching a large pool perched on the side of the canyon wall.
While many of Nevada’s hot springs are housed in cattle troughs or are natural pools in the ground, 12 Mile differs as it pools in a large, aboveground concrete structure. While the depth is only 2-3 feet, the length of the pool is an astounding 30 feet long. Sitting around 102 degrees at the source, perhaps the most impressive feature of 12 Mile Hot Spring is the vibrant clarity of the water. Divvying up spectacular aquamarine hues, the water is clean and truly beautiful. Best yet, if the water is too warm, you can take a cooler dip in the creek below.
