“439 acres of beautiful rolling hills”
Tucked into the scenic rolling hills of the Western Highlands, 439-acre Black Rock State Park offers a variety of outdoor activities. Steep, wooded ledges covered with pine, hemlock and oak provide the setting for Black Rock Pond. The name "Black Rock" is derived from the local graphite deposits which the early settlers of the Naugatuck Valley were allowed to mine by the resident Indians around 1657. Visitors can enjoy the scenery of the Western Highlands while hiking the blue-blazed Mattatuck Trail, which connects the park to the woodland sections of the Mattatuck State Forest. Black Rock Campground offers 75 sites within walking distance to the beach and fishing pond. 4 rustic cabin sites are also available. The campground is open from mid-April until September 30. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table. There are two full bath houses with showers and flush toilets. Firewood and ice can be purchased within a mile of the park. In addition to camping, Black Rock offers swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on March 17, 2019Our arrival was pretty easy, we had a pull through site, but it was just situated on the side of the road within the campground, didn't really seem like a site. There was very little privacy between the sites.
Prior to booking a site at this campground, we knew that it was going to be dry camping. There was no electric, and maybe our experience would have been better if we didn't pick the hottest weekend of the summer to go. However we just didn't get a good vibe from the campground compared to others that we have stayed at.
The only positive that we can think of, is the location was close to things we wanted to see.

We've camped at Black Rock countless times. We've stayed in the cabins and tent camped in the sites. The bathrooms are clean (as far as state campgrounds go). It is patrolled regularly and rules are enforced. The campsites are decent sized with a good amount of foliage in between them. It's our close to home camping go to spot.
