“dedicated in 1940 as "Josh Higgins Parkway", named for a popular radio character of the day”
The scenic beauty of George Wyth State Park makes it a very popular picnic spot. Three open shelters near the river and Fisher Lake.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 08, 2021Nice little campground...don't over look the sites on the Cedar river..watched hundreds of bats feasting on insects at dusk hover over the river as others enjoy their electric sites by the bathroom
We stayed here while my hubby was doing military training. The park has multiple playgrounds within walking distance of the campground and lots of smoother walking/bike paths. There are also lakes nearby for fishing. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. Electric hookup only. Gravel pads. The one big negative is that you can hear the highway in the distance but that wasn’t too much of a problem for us. Camp sites are not huge but big enough for kids to run around.

-Most if not all sites are pretty unlevel
-Site 7 was supposed to be fully shaded as listed on their website but looks like they cut down three trees as there’s now large stumps there and in full sun
-Site 7 backs up to what looks like a pond on the campground map but in fact it’s a mosquito breeding ground and the mosquitos are so bad
-The freeway is very loud when sitting outside but not bad when inside.
-Women’s bathroom (didn’t check the men’s) is closed from 8:30-10am M-Sa and 2:30-4p Su for cleaning/sanitizing (because, COVID)
-There are cicada killer wasps flying and nesting all around the bathroom house which is right next to the kids playground and dump station
-Dump station and drinking water station are in the middle of the campground by the bathroom
-Non-electric sites along the south side of the campground are along the Cedar River have the best views of a sunset. There’s even a little bench that anyone can use.
-Bike trails are okay, not well maintained or clear of debris but that may be due to staffing during COVID. Can’t even walk down them without spraying yourself with heavy duty bug spray because mosquitos and gnats are so bad
-George Wyth Lake has a nice small dock/boat ramp to put in your own kayaks or you can rent from Maxx Rentals
-Fire pit and picnic table at each site
-Laundry mat- Handy Laundry 2520 Melrose Dr, Cedar Falls, IA 50613 accepts cards and was the nicest one I’ve ever seen!
-cell service on Verizon and AT&T was tolerable but very slow and made working a pain

This is like a dating site! Swinging singles and groups of friends in the entire campground made our stay uncomfortable, contentious and as if we had camped in their pathways to each other’s campsites.
Last night (at 3am) a group walked up to our RV and decided that was where they needed to discuss our RV and it’s good and bad points. I was getting up to ask them to leave when they concluded their critique.
This is a beautiful park, but the lack of privacy, the garbage being quite a distance from our camp site and the constant loud yelling made our stay difficult.
