The entrance road for Steer Pasture Overlook is just 1/4 north of the Pinnacles entrance to Badlands National Park and is the same as for Nomad View. The entrance road is smooth but old ruts show it can be very soft in rainy weather. As of this writing, even large rigs should have no trouble with the road. When the road T's at the bluff, turn left for Steer Pasture Overlook.

Located on National Grassland, this area is just a smooth grassy path along the bluff where you can pick your site. Camping along the bluff can get breezy, but the views over the badlands are endless! There are microwave towers just west of the bluff, so cell service on both AT&T and Verizon is extremely good.

Very quiet, close to Wall for shopping, and literally within sight of the Pinnacles entrance to Badlands National Park. Boondocking doesn't get any better than this!

Amazing over night stay here. Overlooking the badlands was breathtaking. No one was close but could see a couple other campers off in the distance. The acess road to get here is a little rough and has some ruts but was doable in 2wd. Last night got pretty gusty wind wise but did not affect the stay. No hook ups what so ever. Complete dry camping. The grass seems very dry and east to lite, be cautious of sparks. We did not see any tires and read that fires are only permitted in fire pits. Flies are very well present when the wind dies down, be sure to close the screen door! Overall amazing stay for 0$ you can not beat the silence and sounds of nature.

We arrived in time to set up and see the Big Horn Sheep go down the side of the cliff and then we got to see a beautiful sunset. The night was a little breezy and we were able to leave the windows and door open to enjoy a cool night under the covers. Very cozy!
In the morning I was able to brew the coffee and get set up to photograph a most gorgeous sunrise. And then the sheep began climbing up the cliff and I was lucky enough to get a video of them playing right outside my door.
The road in was a quarter mile north of the Pinnacle entrance to the park and although it was dirt it was easy to navigate in either direction. Lots of room to park and not be too close to other campers and we were able to run the generator without disturbing anyone.
I would definitely stay here again and again!

This is the best camping site we have ever stayed at. The location is simply breathtaking, with a broad view across a broken plain with classic Badlands features. Unlike our experience with previous national forest dispersed camping, this entire area is pristine, with no trash in sight. Instead, we were treated to views of waving grasses along the top of the bluff, distant rainstorms sweeping across the prairie, wandering bighorn sheep and pronghorns, incredibly active birds, and rocky formations spread out before us for miles that took on new colors and shapes as the light changed throughout the day. The location is extremely quiet (except for the birds!) despite being just off 240. The north entrance to Badlands National Park is less than a mile away, and the northern part of the park near Pinnacles seems to have most of the bison and bighorn. Get up early to see the herds feeding near the roads! Wall is within 7 miles for easy access to a small grocery store, several gas stations, and some fast food.

The entrance road is easily found by looking for the two cell towers. Turn left after the towers at the bluff -- most people go right and end up crowded together. There are tons of excellent sites as you head north along the bluff from the cell towers. We had heavy rain one night during our visit, and the road was very muddy for a day, then dried out. Access was no problem. The only potential issues: there were definitely flies of various sizes when the wind died down, but the wind could also be extremely heavy at times so don't leave your awning up unattended. We were only sorry that we needed to move on to our next location after just 5 days.

We had 3 bars of LTE service on AT&T. Download: 20.17 Mbps Upload: 1.90 Mbps

This campsite is incredible! You park right on a bluff overlooking some cliffs and then it's plains and pods to the horizon. Very easy to find. Like another reviewer said, just turn left after the two cell towers when driving from Wall to Badlands. The park is literally just down the road. Make sure you wake up for the sunrise!

I have Verizon and had great coverage. 12 MB down and 8 MB up.

We think that Nomad View Dispersed and Steer Pasture Overlook Dispersed are one in the same. There are less reviews here, so I will add our 2 cents worth here.

Read all the reviews on the Nomad View Dispersed as well as reviews here for Steer Pasture Overlook. Then here I will mention what we think is important.

The gate is NOT an easy gate to open and close, it is barbed wire secured to a post that attaches to a loop of cable near the ground and has a chain that wraps around the top of the post and attaches to a nail. On one of our returns that gate had not been closed. Again, the gate is NOT easy to close.

Go LEFT. If you go right it ends shortly with a sign that says no vehicles. There is room to turn around. Again, LEFT is the way to go.

DON'T leave your awnings out in case the wind comes up.

ENJOY the peace and quiet.

This spot and Nomad View are really one in the same, so check out reviews for both. I highly recommend staying here when visiting the Badlands and surrounding area. The overlook is beautiful, it's easy to access, you're a mile from the national park, and you're 10 mins from Wall and supplies.

As others have said, there are more spots to the left than to the right once you get to the edge. There is a decent-sized area to turn around if you go to the right. To the left, there are still plenty of spots to turn around, but it will be a bit tighter. Just look for the larger parking spots and use one to turn, if needed.

The road goes quite far, but about a mile in, there is a very steep section of road. I definitely would not have wanted to drive down it pulling my 5th wheel. I would have been hesitant even in my truck alone. I did see some people with small trailers parked beyond it, but they may have used a second entrance to the north. If you find yourself traveling pretty far to find a spot (which you likely won't have to do), I recommend getting out and scouting ahead a bit before taking your vehicle forward.

Do be aware of the high winds in the area. As many others have noted, do not leave your awning out unattended. We were only there a couple days, but it was too windy to use it at all the entire time. If you're expecting to be away from your RV for the day, and you have slide toppers, I'd recommend pulling your slides in as well. We had a partly-cloudy forecast, so we went out for a long-ish hike in the park. While hiking, our phones went off with weather alerts of 70 mph gusts heading right for our spot. We couldn't make it back in time, and we lost one of the toppers. Luckily, we didn't leave anything else outside while we were gone, and I'd imagine we would have lost our chairs if we left them out.

Don't let any of that discourage you, though. It really is a great spot, and as long as you take some simple precautions, you'll have a great time there.

Earlier posters said it all. It's boon docking on steroids!. Access could be problematic for a Class A and if it has been wet or will be wet FORGET IT.

No fires, National Grasslands, keep it clean when you leave so we can continue enjoying the best of the best.

I happened to look at Campendium while I was in Wall, SD and found this site. What a jewel. Spent 3 days on the right side facing the entrance to the Badlands. Read other reviews...they tell it all. I was in my '92 Bounder so when they predicted rain I left. Someone took out the entrance fence and some person left after a major rain and tore up the road. I'm sure the Rangers have changed that b/c that was two years ago. Please, please respect the area and don't leave a mess. It was clean when I got there and it was clean when I left. I had animals grazing around my rig (how fun). There were 5 rigs on the entire overlook...plenty of room. Respect or we loose.

Just passing through needed a place to sleep the truck stop in town said we could not park there over night this is the one by the big dinosaur. Some day we are going to camp at the other place here in Badlands (Sage Creek) but this one worked out great it did get a little slick the next morning because it rained the mud made it feel like I was Ice Road Trucking.
