“Named Hugh Mongous”
Ocean Breeze Waterpark's theme song was written and developed by kids like you! Hugh Mongous was born in June of 1977 by University of Richmond's professor, Demetrios Mavoudis. Hugh Mongous was so popular when the park opened, that local newspapers occasionally wrote a feature about the gorilla asking him about his experience at Ocean Breeze Waterpark. Hugh Mongous is 45 feet tall and weighs 11,000 pounds. The original spelling of Hugh Mongous was Hu-Mungus. In 1985, Ocean Breeze Waterpark questioned Hugh's contributions to the park, but after the children showed support for him, Hugh quickly regained his spot within the Ocean Breeze family. On May 10, 1985, Hugh got a $7,000 makover. In January 1989, the original Hugh Mongous suffered from third-degree burns and received over $40,000 in medial care. After a few years of recovery, Hugh reigned again over Ocean Breeze Waterpark and Virginia Beach once again in 1996. Ocean Breeze is kid-friendly with its four adventurous areas specifically for the little buccaneers: Hook's Lagoon, Buccaneer Bay, South Seas Silly Slides, and the Little Amazon. The ice cream stand has eight different flavors of Hershey's Ice Cream. In 1990, the City Council made an exception allowing Ocean Breeze to build a roller coaster, as long as Hugh Mongous was brought back. Hugh returned, but the coaster was never built.
Its ohkay , but dont recommend goin here . Bathrooms are nasty, food is over priced and not that good . Wave pool is not big at all and the water slides suck . Not a very big water park anyways . Plus every time ive went the pools have been nasty like.they never clean em . Instead i would check out water country usa located in Williamsburg Virginia . Its way bigger and way better ! Never disappoints !
