“Cuneo family collection of fine antiques”
Cuneo Museum and Gardens was completed in 1918 as the home of Samuel Insull, an original founder of the General Electric Company, and designed by Chicago architect Benjamin Marshall in the Italianate style. Its gardens and landscaping were designed by world-renowned landscape architect Jens Jensen. The mansion, which opened to the public as the Cuneo Museum and Gardens in 1991, houses the Cuneo family collection of fine antiques, paintings by world-famous artists, tapestries, sculptures, silver, and porcelain.
Right next to Michigan Avenue at Vernon Hills, Cuneo Museum or "Marble Museum" is a great place to visit.
The architecture of it and the materials used (17 different kinds of marble in combination with mahogany) make it unique. Also, what is impressive is that this quite small museum now, used to be the biggest residence of Chicago. You can get informed for the history of the place from the staff which is very helpful and friendly.
The Gardens are fantastic and very well cared.
