Smith Falls, at 63 feet (19 m), is the highest waterfall in the state of Nebraska. Located 18 miles (29 km) east of Valentine, the falls is part of Smith Falls State Park and is adjacent to the Niobrara National Scenic River. The state park was established by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in 1992. In 1996, the historic Verdigris bridge was moved to its present site spanning the Niobrara River to provide more convenient public access.

Beautiful! Walk to the waterfall is maybe a quarter or half mile and an easy walk. We had our 5 kids ages 2 through 10 and they loved it. They didn't want to leave . It was over 100 degrees outside and once you get closer to the fall it feels SO good! Very cool. Water is cold, my feet were getting numb standing in it but my kids were wading in the water not caring. I would suggest water shoes if you are planning to get wet in the water. We also walked down another path to the river and our kids played in the water for over an hour. They loved it. Scenery is beautiful. Lots of bugs though! Lots of people were camping, seems like a nice place for that. There are also showers with warm water. They work with tokens that you have to buy in the office. Overall our experience was great and kids or no kids this place is a great stop.
very fun ;)
Smith Falls was amazing. A short hike to the falls. Very easy path. Rangers at the station very helpful and friendly! Definitely recommend.
We went specifically to see the waterfall, which was beautiful. The bathrooms at the main office were very clean and they had a decent selection of places to camp out right along the river. We even got up close and personal with some wild turkeys. Very cool.
Something to look at that isn't grassland! Take a canoe trip down the Niobrara River, or just enjoy the short hike to the rushing waterfall-- the tallest in Nebraska. The canyon in which the falls are located has provided a good environment for trees to grow; not something you normally get to see in the Sand Hills of Nebraska.
It's not Smith Falls State Park, it's Fort Falls in Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge!!!
It's very nice but you need Stairs, so if you're handicapped, it's maybe not for you.
