“geological weirdness!”
Take this short hike, called Grapevine Trail, through the geological weirdness of Big Bend to visit this balanced rock! Rest in the shade, take pictures, hunt for lizards (or mountain lions!!!!) or just enjoy the view! It's a hot and rocky trail, so be prepared and make sure to keep hydrated!
Such a great hike, especially for kids. The first part of the trail is about a mile and is pretty flat and smooth. The fun part is the last quarter mile up the side of the rocks. A great view from the top. The sun seemed extra strong there. Was recommended in an article about camping at BB with kids http://www.thealmosteverythingblog.com/blog/minimalist-camping-with-kids-planning-a-trip-to-big-bend-national-park
Great hike that was perfect for my 7 year old. There is even a good bit of rock climbing at the end. The scenery is amazing! The road is somewhat rough leading up to the trailhead.
As i mentioned in a previous review of mine about the Big Bend National Park, i consider it to be one of the greatest natural wonders not only in the state of Texas, but in the whole of the USA.
If someone could have a Far West scenery in his mind with cowboys and Indians, then definitely the Big Bend seems like the ideal scenery to this scenario.
Majestic and vast is a great place for those looking for some great rock formations, the greatest of which in this area, seems to be the so-called 'Balanced Rock'. This is yet one more proof that states the artistic capabilities of nature. It is a real wonder how these rocks are balancing with each other. Great place for amazing photos of a lifetime!!!
A great hike through the desert to a really neat geological feature. The road to the trailhead was dicier than the trail itself. The last part of the hike is a lot of fun as you scramble up rocks to get get to Balanced Rock. Balanced Rock also provides a great source of shade on a hot day!
