Point Beach State Forest Campground

This State Forest provides numerous very shaded sites for camping in tents or campers. It is located on the shores of Lake Michigan and as a result has an almost perpetual breeze blowing. There is a lighthouse, water, dump station, firewood and a large store with basic items.
Pit toilets are the norm with 2 shower houses for the site.
Our site was very shady and private. The rear of the site opened out onto woods and no others sites. Great hammock trees. The fire ring and table had full sun in the afternoon.
Two Rivers is the local town and is worth a visit.
A few things to note - there are several twin sites intended for 2 groups to share. They can be a bit more prone to noise if that bothers you. We had one opposite (down the road a bit) and one adjacent. Neither were an issue for us but the one down the road was a but "lively" one night. Some of the sites are open in the winter and are plowed. Instructions on which sites are open are on the website. Looks like a good spot for some winter fun if that is your thing.
Verizon coverage was patchy at best but fine with a booster.

With Kohler-Andrae State Park in my backyard, I hadn't ever noticed the Point Beach State Forest campground until I started RVing 2 years ago. I'm so glad I did! Similar to Kohler-Andrae, it is perched on a unique series of forested ridges, wetland swales, and sand dunes on the Lake Michigan shoreline. With the Ice Age Trail and Rawley Point Trail running through the park, one has remarkable access to hiking and biking. We biked the Rawley Trail into Two Rivers where it connects to the Mariners Trail along the lake into Manitowoc. The campground has several loops some small, some larger. The loop in the low 100s is set well back from the shore in the deep woods for mostly dry camping. Sites are mostly large and laid out individually - no cookie cutter sites here. One thing we noticed is that while the electrical stand is usually in a logical location, the water spigot is not. It can be anywhere in the site and is sometimes shared. In our case, our 25' hose wouldn't reach from the driver's side all the way to the spigot located between us and the next site over. We could fill our fresh water tank easily however so it was fine. The lighthouse is closed to tours but is still enjoyable to view from a distance. There is a dog beach south of the lighthouse on a well-marked path. If there were only a beach! The campground hosts kept pretty much to themselves but some of the neighbors were very friendly. Don't count on any cell service at all. With a booster we got a little AT&T but with more than a few people trying to access it it was pretty hopeless. Our T-Mobile kicked in nicely once we road a few miles closer to Two Rivers. By the way, the Pick & Save grocery store in Two Rivers is really well stocked.

This is my first review for a relatively new, novice car camper. This was a great place to go camping on Labor Day weekend to enjoy the weather before summer. The reviews below are still applicable but one thing to emphasize in this age of the COVIDs is how relatively isolated each of the sites are. Site 28 was well separated from the other sites with thick vegetation along the south and west sides of the site. The isolation reminded me of Sleeping Bear Dunes and was a far cry from the crowded state parks we visited in Michigan. Except for a couple of late night parties on Friday, sound from the other camp sites was hardly audible. In fact, the sound of the waves from Lake Michigan was welcome, relaxing white noise.

Verizon coverage was mostly nonexistent for me and I didn't get steady signal until we drove closer to Two Rivers. The 2 bath/shower buildings were cleaned daily and relatively clean. Pit toilets were OK too, though I only visited them a couple of times.

Site 28 was designated as tent only but the surface was prepared with gravel. There was no area where I could set my ground tarp and tent without sharp stones. No punctures in the air mattresses, thankfully, but I was unable to drive my cheap tent stakes in to anchor the tent. Luckily, the weather was clear and calm so I didn't worry about the tent being blown away. I need better tent stakes and/or more experience with these type of surfaces.

Out-of-state cost was $25 M–F and $27 Sa–Su. Online reservation fee was $7.75 and the Wisconsin State Park System vehicle admission sticker was a separate, $38/year charge. We had an enjoyable time and I'd visit again.

Step out of your camper and walk 150 yards to the beach. The soothing sound of surf to fall asleep to at night. That's what Point Beach is all about. You also get a lighthouse to take pictures of. About one third of the electric sites also have water, making this the only state park in Wisconsin that we've been to that has that. It won't tell you on the reservations site; you have to go to the park web page and look at the PDF campground map to see them indicated. Be advised that there was a little discoloration due to iron, but there was no noticeable taste and it was perfectly safe. There are actually two shower buildings and both were of modern design. The electrical at our site was 30 amp.

There is a camp store in the park, but hours may be limited due to COVID. Since we got there just after Labor Day and the weather was mostly miserable, the park was only about 25% occupied. It was really quite eerie to have the place mostly to oneself.

There's a great story behind the Rawley Point Lighthouse, and if you're an active duty, retired, or disabled veteran you can actually rent a room in the keeper's house through the US Coast Guard. Really cool place.

My wife and I stayed here with our dogs in March 2021. Not many campers. Facilities are nice. We did not have water at our site but power was good. Water is available at some sites and also there are water stations throughout the campground. Beach is beautiful and there is a lighthouse and several trails throughout the area. We had zero cell reception through ATT. Would recommend a booster or other service if you require cell. Would definitely go again. Lastly, there is an AWESOME campsite next to an old cabin. I forget the number but it’s worth looking into. It’s right on the lake(no view you are blocked by dunes)

Close to a really nice beach. Bothe electric and non electric sites, several shower houses. Very wooded and good level bike riding.

Nice place, right near the beach. Generous sized wooded sites. Good trail system, great for walks or bikes. Since we work on the road, cell signal was a problem, so we will not come back. Occasional voice/text reception, but spotty. No data at all. Be aware there are continuous sightings of the Wisconsin state bird: The Skeeter, so be prepared.

Well away from I-43 and on the outskirts from small community of Two Rivers, Point Beach State Forest Campground is a gem. A friendly, hospitable Ranger, and the camphost appeared accessible. During our mid-May stay, sites were approximately 50% occupied during the week (T, W nights). Our site was within "hearing distance" of the waves of Lake Michigan. Sunny days, cool evenings (45 - 50 degrees), and night-time intermittent rain showers kept the pollen down as all the tree buds were opening. A primarily flat, easy to enjoy, bike trail within yards of our campsite allows you to ride atop the "Ridges" created by this Great Lake many moons ago. A Beautiful Beach (as it is located well away from Milwaukee). Clean restrooms. Level, graveled site. Decent picnic table and fire ring. Although a poor cellular connection, it was enough to allow SD streaming of an Cary Grant black & white, also we could stream Spotify and receive / send email - perfect for us.

Great biking and hiking trails. The bike trails can be taken all the way into Two Rivers. Don't miss the West Gardens in Manitowoc. Good bike trails along lake in Manitowoc also. The only downside was the water quality. The water was light brown from all the iron in water. bring your own drinking water.
