“Camp on the Lake”
Logger Campground sits on beautiful Stampede Reservoir on the Tahoe National Forest, 30 minutes from Truckee, Calif. Visitors enjoy the area for its boating, fishing and abundant hiking and off-road trails. The campground is situated on the south side of Stampede Reservoir, which is located on the Little Truckee River, immediately below the mouth of Davies Creek, approximately eight miles above the confluence of the Little Truckee and Truckee Rivers. A forest of ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine and fir trees covers the area. Sagebrush dots the forest floor. Boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing are popular activities on the reservoir. Anglers will find rainbow and brown trout and kokanee salmon. A boat ramp is located on-site. Many miles of hiking and off-road vehicle trails crisscross the surrounding area. The Commemorative Emigrant Trail stretches more than a mile along the historic Emigrant Trail, and is open to hiking. This large campground offers over 200 single-, double- and triple-family sites. Picnic tables, campfire rings and grills are provided, along with vault toilets and drinking water. The Camp Store is located within the campground. A variety of camping and fishing supplies, ice, groceries and souvenirs are available.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on May 30, 2021Beautiful campsite, quiet campground until second night when a group moved in around us, but quieted down, well before 10 pm. Hosts helped us locate a place for family who are arriving without reservations for the second night. Water was very low and the board ramp extremely steep. Decided not to put our boat in at this location. Bald eagle and white pelicans were very visible.

200 campsites in 6 loops some more level than others. We originally had campsite #37 but it needed over 7 inches of lift to level out 30 foot TT so we ended up switching sites. Reservations are through Recreation dot Gov and we were able to talk to a ranger and switch campsite without any problem. There is a boat ramp nearby and a dump station which is $10. First time I ever had to scan a credit card at dump station, not that I mind paying just a new experience. We arrived mid week and I understand weekends are busier. Lake level was low due to being late in the season but there is a hiking trail around the lake shore. Also disc golf course near the boat ramp parking area which we didn't have a chance to try out. Used interagency discount pass so fee was half of normal rate. We would love to camp there again, maybe next time when 1/2 of California is not on fire. We were there during the Loyalton and LNU Complex fires so there was a lot of smoke in the air. Mobile cellular service was hit and miss on both Verizon Mifi and AT&T mobile phone.

This was one of the only places in the area we could find when making reservations in January for the holiday weekend. The majority of folks were from Reno in giant fifth wheels, huge diesel trucks. It was loud but that's to be expected on Memorial Day weekend. The lake is very far down, so much so that it's better to go back out on the road then drive to the boat launch 9the ramp just barely makes it into the water) than walk from the campground.
The sites themselves are fine. Vault toilets stinky but that's normal. Very strict about the use of ATVs in the campground and otherwise. Lake was smallish so kayaing was pleasant, several other kayakers and paddleboarders out. Forested so very pretty but solar required lots of adjustment. Aggressive deer and chipmunks so all food and trash has to be away unless actively eating or prepping.
Signal wasn't great and not easy to get to a place where it is. Cell phones won't work you have to have a booster or alternative. If you come in from Truckee it is a janky dirt road for about 7 miles so be prepared to get vibrated and go slow.
