Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on July 01, 20231 lap through the RV section and you will quickly realize the state has left this campground unmaintained. Major potholes begin as soon as you enter the gravel section and continue until you complete the loop. At one point on the exit side of the loop, you may consider locking in the 4x4 if you have one. Every campsite is in need of serious grooming as they are overgrown.
There is supposedly a lake here. The easiest access may be from the boat ramp. From the campsites, there is a sign indicating a direction to the lake, but you may need to break out your machete to cut a path to the shore. There were no lake views from any campsite.
There is a dump station before you enter the campground.
Its a shame, as this campground could be beautiful.

it's a nice campground with great lake and easy access with kayak.. like all the state park campground the cost is $20 per night and like all or almost all the state park campground the roads are CRAP..
***There is NOT running water only a hand pump, THIS IS what you see a most if not ALL alaska state park campgrounds. Even the camp host do have have water connections.. some have a tank and some get water delivered weekly.. Fill up at Riley in Denali if staying there or coming through and not full..
The place seems overgrown but that seem to be the usual for AK State parks.. NO maintenance or very little maintenance overall.. guess they are going for the natural look :)
this is the worst one yet.. best one, so far, was Rosehip on Chena hot spring road.. Camp Host and husband make 3 trips to gravel yard and fill in most all the big holes.. that was so nice..
Some of the potholes here are at least 6 to 8 inches deep i kid you not.. ( will post pictures and video later when we get better service.. (seems the same from a 2017 review. SAD..)
ATT low service.. not sure on verizon and T mobile does not exist in AK at all.. We roam on ATT..
There are 4 loops and most of the sites are long enough for 40 ft er.. On each loop on right of loops are more pull throughs some large and some smaller..
On each loop in middle is vault toilets.. each site has table , and fire pit.
No real lake views from campground.. there is a trail to lake but its not the best and just dumps you on the shore for the skeeters to feast on..
The onsite dump is close everyday but sunday and cost additional $10 bucks.. (according to sign on gate.)

Unlike some of the other folks that have reviewed here I was not expecting a resort CG. It's a basic, no frills state park. No water, no electric, no dump hook ups. BASIC campground. Not a resort, thankfully!
Yes, it's got high grasses between the sites! It's a campground within Denali State Park, so we like the fact that it is left as a natural setting, rather than "groomed", like many campgrounds that are more like a parking lot or a "resort" would be.
Yes, potholes abound! I'd rather that than having people driving thru like they're on a racetrack with better roads. Go slow and you really won't get swallowed up....well, not all the way at least ;)
Ratio of approximately 3 to 1 as far as back in sites/pull thru sites. There are 4 loops and each has 2 vaulted toilets. Firewood seems to be when/if a host is here. No host when we came in, maybe there will be one later in the w/end? We are finding a lot of the AK state parks don't have hosts on site. Dump station is listed as being open on Sunday from 10-2. Most sites have enough open sky for solar and Starlink.
Looking forward to picking up our new tandem kayak while we stay here and taking it out on the lake. We love that AK at most, if not all lakes provide life jackets for little ones as well as adults. What a great idea. this campground also has canoes and kayaks at the boat launch area. Didn't check but would assume they are rentable?
Starlink works great. Verizon=4G/2 bars.
