Confirmed by 8 users | Last reported on September 05, 2023Free BLM land camping, we camped in a 35' 5th wheel with no issues getting in or out. DRY CAMPING only. Large level area's along side of dirt access road 1/2 from paved highway. VERY QUIET. Very windy!!! No limit on stay according to BLM office just up the road. Great Verizon coverage. 3-4 bars of LTE with speeds of 9-11mbs down and 8-10mbs up! Great for streaming MLB & Netflix too!

It overlooks highway 95 just south of Tonapah, but not much road noise. Great for an overnight stay. It is quite windy, but doable. Nice views. It was a bit hard to find the turn off to it, its just pass the Texaco gas station to the right. ☺

The turn off is just past the Texaco on the other side of the highway & you’ll see the Land Management sign & building, just up the hill where the turnoff is. Not a bad spot for an overnight stop...much better than a truck stop, rest stop or Walmart, bc we’re able to put all our slides out. Internet/Cell is good, too; 13M/5M on T-mobile & 14M/16M on Verizon (although it does fluctuate on different parts of the road). The area has pull offs for maybe 4-8 RV’s, depending on size & how close you’re parked. All spots are within the first 1/2 mile of the gravel/dirt road, which seemed fairly level & clean. We did drive back about 3 miles on the road to see what else there was. The views are great, but not really any spots to camp. There’s an intersection eventually, that’s big enough to turn around, but it’s almost as soft as everything off the sides of the road (possibly would sink if tried to camp, so decided against it). We stayed here in our 39ft 5th Wheel.

Excellent dispersed camping. Easy to find, right next to BLM office Southendof Tonopah. For some reason we can barely hear the highway noise even though it's within viewing distance.

Tonopah Dispersed BLM camping is a wide dirt road where you parallel park on the side of the road to camp. There is road noise, but nothing earplugs couldn't take care of. Tonopah is over 6k feet in elevation, so it was quite cold during our stay. Great for an overnight, but no need to go out of your way to stop here.

Aluminarium hit the nail on the head. Good for overnight. Road noise. Not exactly a destination spot.
Not sure where the other reviewers stayed that mentioned they hardly heard the highway, cuz that's all I heard. Unless the wind was blowing so strongly that all I heard was wind noise. Yes, it can get windy here. High elevation desert location - what do you expect?
On the positive side, we had an awesome sunset while we were there. But otherwise, meh. It's a gravel parking lot next to a major north/south highway in a forgettable town.

In reading the other reviews, I think there's some confusion about this location. Allstays shows only one BLM Site near Tonopah at the intersection of Highways 6 and 376. We went there first and it's a smallish gravel lot just off the road. I think some of the other reviewers may have stayed here which explains why they complained of road noise. We ended up going to the dispersed site next to the BLM office across from the Texaco. The gravel road with the dispersed sites takes you away from the highway. We heard no noise.

This BLM is on the south side of town. BLM office on the right traveling south and a Texaco station on the left. Paved turn off to dirt road. We stopped at the foot of Butler mtn. Great views, great weather equals great stay.

Actual stay was October 2018. This is a wide dirt road just off the main road. The road does become narrower, so be cautious not to travel past the coordinates with a Lg rig. No trees, open for solar, fairly level after the first small grade, and 4 bars Verizon LTE.
Even though it is close the highway, it is fairly quiet. The town has a few amenities including a tire shop that carries Goodyear Endurance tires. My stock tires had just worn their tread, so I was happy this little shop had what I wanted to replace them with!
We did see a convoy of military tanks on trailers in the morning, but it’s Nevada, so you should expect that.

I stayed here on May 29th 2019. Thanks to an other reviewer I could find the entry. Once you are off from the little asphalt entry part the dirt road splits right away into 3 choices. It was dark when I arrived. I stopped on the asphalt entry and walked first the dirt road choices. That was a good idea because one is impossible with a deep dip, one has a somehow sudden bump up to a higher level and the 3rd was smooth going all the way in. So, I would recommend new arrivals to first walk before driving into a bad choice dirt road. Once in I drove about 500 yards. The campsites are like 50 feet wide dirt road. The main road seemed about 300 yards away and noice-level was low, with little traffic. I was the only camper here. It looked like fresh graded with a fine gravel. My AT&T prepaid cell phone had no Signal. My AT&T Netgear Hotspot had 4 bars signal but only 0.1 MBit speed, only good for text. My T-Mobile iPad had 4 bars and a decent 3 MBit speed.
