The Paxton house was built in 1884 by James W. Paxton of Wheeling, West Virginia. In 1989 Susie Sherrod, a retired Army Colonel, bought the Paxton House and set about meticulously restoring its Victorian features and making it into an elegant but comfortable bed and breakfast. She welcomed guests until August of 2014 when Carol and Charlie Whitney took the reins and continue to welcome guests from far and wide to Thomasville.
