“formerly the Camp Myles Standish!”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. During World War II the War Department secured 1,600 acres of land from Taunton, Massachusetts, to use as a military camp. After World War II it was turned of to the State of Massachusetts who turned it into a school for the handicapped and named it, Myles Standish School for the Mentally Retarded. After 1958 it was renamed Paul A. Dever State School in honor of the governor who helped fund the school. In 1991, lack of funding and lawsuits caused for most of the facility to close, with full closure and abandonment happening in 2002. Sadly, these building have ALL been completely gutted. They may still be standing, but as of Oct 2013, they were all completely bare.
As an active photographer of abandoned/historial buildings in the New England area, this place is DEMOLISHED! Only one or two buildings still stand, but they are being demolished by the end of November. Don't make the trip for nothing, everything will be gone! :(
Went there with my buddy to check the place out. We were both arrested 3 charges filed against us. 2 were false only real charge is the trespass which really isn't something you usually get arrested for.
So the moral of the story is don't go to Dever ..
