Jesse James Wax Museum

If you're into the legend of Jesse James, this is a must. The center of the attraction is a 15-minute video that sets up the premise that Jesse James was not killed shortly after the Civil War, but that he lived under an assumed name until 1951. The rest of the exhibit includes four or five wax tableaux and a random collection of antiques and memorabilia, only some of which has to do with the James' legend. If you like a long guns, there is an interesting display of dozens of these. Friendly staff and the obligatory gift shop, also filled with random bric-a-brac. If you need to get off the highway and stretch your legs it's worth the half hour.

Really cool place. The guy up front was awesome and very friendly. He also told us about other neat places to visit!! The museum is really informative and makes you question what you thought you always knew!

I gotta say, the gift shop is pretty rad here. Most of the gift shops on Route 66 are filled with the same old stuff, coffee mugs and shot glasses. But this one has old-timey cowboy and Indian toys, like toy guns, little plastic figurines of green army men! You just can't find this stuff anymore. Kids will love the wax museum too. There's a movie to watch first and then you walk through a bunch of cool scenes with wax people.

Had a wonderful visit here in August, 2014. I went with my 9-month old son and he loved the wax exhibits. Great gift shop too. Bought some old-school "Cowboy and Indian" toys for my kid. The guy who was working there knows so much about Jesse James and he was super excited to talk about the mystery surrounding his death. Overall, awesome visit!

Fun and interesting. Great place if you are a gun collector.

Ok HUGE disappointment. I wasn’t expecting the Louvre, but this looked like a off the highway souvenir shop. It was closed when we got there but was actually relieved that we didn’t have to pay.

The museum was closed when we stopped there in January. We took a couple pictures of the signs and were bummed it was closed

This is such a fun attraction! There are no pictures or videos allowed inside the exhibits but you can take as many as you want outside which was fabulous as there is a vintage sign for the museum, a historic Route 66 sign just next to the parking lot (for those that want a selfie with the sign without getting run over) and there's an old toy museum next door which is shut down but the sign is still a great photo op. The man that was working at the museum when we went was friendly and very helpful. The museum isn't big but it has a lot of great information on the supposed death of Jesse James and several very cool pieces of memorabilia owned by Jesse and his gang. It was only $8 per person and well worth the cost of admission if you are into the Jesse James story!

I'm a lover of all things history, so this place was right up my alley. It's a really cool, obscure little roadside attraction that gives you a bit of a history lesson too!
