Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 06, 2022Wells State Park is my idea of a state park campground. No hook ups, but lots of trees and right on Walker Pond for swimming and kayaking. We arrived without a reservation and the camp ranger mentioned there was a 35' size limit. No problem our rig is only 33', but he said the 35' included the towed vehicle and we might have to park our CRV elsewhere. Turned out the spaces were plenty long enough. The park had lots of openings and he assigned us one and said if we saw something else that worked better to take it and give him a call. I love friendly, helpful rangers. :)
We chose space #5, the trees made getting our 33’ class A into it a little tricky – but it was worth the effort. Several of the spaces are large enough to accommodate larger rigs, but the narrow camp road (and those pesky trees) would be a challenge in a really big rig.
Spaces are nicely separated so there is privacy. The site quality and size varies – there are some right along the water and others with water views. We had no trouble getting level, but other sites looked more challenging.
There are several hiking trails accessible from the park and some are mountain bike friendly. This is definitely a park we wished we had more time to explore.
We had just 2 bars of Verizon 3G unboosted; we managed 3-4 bars of 4G boosted but it wasn’t entirely stable.

Site Details: We booked site #39 online, based on proximity to bath house (at least, it looked that way on the map). No pictures of individual campsites on the ReserveAmerica booking site, so we were kind of winging it. We unexpectedly arrived at the campground around 10pm, after a long and grueling day on the road. The site (or what we could see of it) seemed nice, but was very unlevel, with a steep, narrow driveway. Combined with the winding, tree-lined loop road, there was no way we were going to be able to back into that site in the dark. We drove back to the camp office to hand our tag back in, ready to find a cheap motel for the night. Much to our delight, they had a pull-through site (#15), that had just been vacated minutes before we got there. So, we drove over to said site, and it was much better. We were able to pull in and get leveled relatively easily, even in the pitch-black. The site was very spacious, close to the bath house, and had a really nice view of Walker Pond through the surrounding trees.
Facilities/Overall Campground: Again, we were only here for a quick overnight stop on the way home from Maine, but from what little we saw, this seemed like a nice little state park. Most sites were heavily wooded, and the pond is very pretty. Staff was also very friendly and helpful. Bath houses were ok: roomy, well-lit, but quite old and a bit smelly. Don’t think they are cleaned very often.
Surrounding Area/Attractions: Didn’t look into area attractions, as we were just passing through. I did see several major stores, restaurants and other signs of suburbia along the local road leading to the park. Very convenient to I-84.
Overall, this seemed to be a decent campground, and I wouldn’t have a problem stopping overnight again if I’m traveling in the area. I would, however, opt for a pull-through site right off the bat!

This is a ripoff!!!! I paid twice for what was listed on Campendium. Unfriendly staff! Felt like I was bothering them just by checking in!! The site is primitive. No hookups. It was gravel, and flat. The campground itself is beautiful as described by others. Many bugs. Bathhouse only one shower (other one was closed)which was disgusting! Had not been cleaned for days.
So, how can I give this place anything more than a one star? Two stars because it is a naturally beautiful place. So for $58.50 I get this????
With a little TLC the staff can make this place something special. I’m not holding my breath:(

Very pleasant campground, with fairly private sites that were well laid out, either along the lake or slightly inland. Came here with a 26' TT and found the road to be quite tight. Would not recommend trying this with longer units. There were a few other trailers, but most folks were in tents, which would be appropriate for this campground. Many sites are not level, except perhaps for a spot for a single tent. No dump station, in keeping with the focus on tent camping here. Toilets were new, clean and well kept.
Overall, its a nice campground with great views of the lake.

Over $60 for a parking spot and no hookups? Crazy.
